Our summer session of Infant Storytime is underway. Each week you’ll find a blog post that covers the books, rhymes, songs, tickle, bounces, flannel stories, fingerplays and puppets we shared. I also throw in some information about the benefits of reading, singing and talking to your baby!
For our second storytime of the session we enjoyed reading and singing about Zoo animals! Below you’ll find a record of everything we shared!
BOOKS WE SHARED
Peek-a-Zoo is a colorful, boldly illustrated picture book written by Marie Torres Cimarusti and illustrated by Stephanie Peterson. Each page offers a chance to play peek-a-boo with a different zoo animal! Lift the flap and your baby discovers the sounds each animal makes. The book offers many opportunities to interact and talk to your baby (great for emergent literacy development).
Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell is a lift-the-flap and pop-up book with a twist. Someone writes a letter to the zoo asking for a pet but it seems every “pet” the zoo sends is either too fierce, too loud, too scary, too tall…you get the picture! All of those “wild” animals were quickly shipped back to the zoo. However, the book has a happy ending. The zoo folks think long and hard and finally send over the perfect house pet – a dog!
New Bounce We Shared
Listen to Acka Backa Soda Cracker, a new, rhyming bounce we shared during storytime. This video and others like it can be found at the Jbrary website. Watch the video and try the bounce at home with your baby! It’s a wonderful way to bond and play together.
