In my last email, I invited everyone to come to storytime in a costume if they’d like. There were many adorable and creative costumes! Here are some group photos I took:

Books We Shared

Our first book for Infant Storytime was one I think I might have bought from the Friends of the Pasadena Library book store. I often find great used books there. I Love You Little Pumpkin by Sandra Magsamen is a sweet lift-the-flap book that invites readers to guess who is hiding behind things based on their costumes peeking out.

(We have a bilingual version too)

Amazing Me! Dressing Up shows babies putting on and even making costumes of all kinds!

Flannel Boards We Shared

Little Cat, Little Cat

Little cat, little cat, are you behind the (color, type) hat?

Costume Party

I made up lyrics for this one on the fly:

I’m having a costume party! Oh! I hear the guests coming!
(knock knock)

I hear a little child knocking
Oh, what fun!
He’s dressed up as a pirate!
Now I have one.

(knock, knock)
Another little child knocking
Gee, I wonder who?
Oh my! A little froggy!
Now my guests are two.

(knock, knock)
Another little child knocking
Who can it be?
A bird? A plane? It’s Superman!
Now my guests are three.

(knock, knock)
Another little child knocking
On my purple door,
Dressed up like a bumblebee!
Now my total’s four.

Action Songs & Bounces We Shared

Flea

On my toe there is a flea
Now he’s climbing on my knee
Past my tummy, past my nose
On my head where my hair grows
On my head there is a flea
Now he’s climbing down on me
Past my tummy, past my knee
On my toe… Take that, you flea!

Icky Bicky Soda Cracker

Icky Bicky Soda Cracker
Icky Bicky Boo
Icky Bicky Soda Cracker
Up goes you! (lift baby)

Icky Bicky Soda Cracker
Icky Bicky Boo
Icky Bicky Soda Cracker
I love you! (give baby a hug)

Goodbye Babies (song in sign)

Click here for video:  Goodbye Babies (Friends)

Goodbye babies, goodbye babies
Goodbye babies, it’s time to say goodbye.

For these next ones we played with scarves:

One Bright Scarf

One bright scarf waiting for the wind to blow
Toss it up high, and wave it down low
Wiggle it fast, and wiggle it slow
(then cover your face)
Hey! Where did everybody go?
(lift up scarf) There you are!

Peekaboo

Peekaboo, where are you
hiding in your… PLACE! PEEKABOO!
Peekaboo, I see you
and your smiling… FACE! PEEKABOO!

Music from CDs We Shared

Did you know singing and dancing improve brain function?  Here are some of the songs/bounces on CD that we used in storytime.

“Clap Everybody and Say Hello” from Sally Go Round the Sun by Kathy Reid-Naiman

“Ladies Ride” from Wiggleworms Love You by Old Town School of Folk Music

“Monster Boogie” from The Best of the Laurie Berkner Band

Today someone asked if I could share the goodbye songs I use. Here they are, and yes, they are in the library’s collection!

“Goodbye in the Bayou” from Bon Voyage by Jazzy Ash

“Goodbye Song” from Shining Like a Star by Laura Doherty
