Books We Shared

On this cool and cloudy day, Bunny Fun by Sarah Weeks and illustrated by Sam Williams seemed like a fun way to start storytime, with its adorable bunny main character who finds ways to keep himself entertained on a rainy day.

The Wonderful Habits of Rabbits features nice rhyming verse by Douglas Florian, and lovely pictures by Sonia Sanchez.

In What’s the Matter, Bunny Blue? by Nicola Smee, a little bunny is troubled and looking for his grandma. He struggles to describe her to other animals in a helpful way, but his friends aren’t giving up!

Puppets

We used puppets to perform the song “Little Bunny Foo Foo”:

Little Bunny Foo Foo

Little bunny Foo Foo
Hopping through the forest
Scooping up the field mice
And boppin’ ’em on the head!
Down came the good fairy
And the good fairy said:
“Little bunny Foo Foo, I don’t wanna see you
Scooping up the field mice and boppin’ ’em on the head!
I’m gonna give you two more chances,
Then I’m gonna turn you into a toad!”

Down came the good fairy

Well, the good fairy was mad now and little bunny Foo Foo had to run away…

My bunny puppet went and hid under the tablecloth, and the fairy left too. So we said, “Come out, Foo Foo! The coast is clear!” And what do you think came out of the tablecloth?

Then we recited the “Here comes a bunny” song (see farther down), a magic spell to turn Foo Foo back into a bunny. 🙂

(This is an old song you sing to the tune of “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” Each time you sing, take one word away and try to remember not to sing that word! I let the kids choose which word to take away.)

We watched “Max’s Bath” from our DVD “Playtime with Max and Ruby.” Bunny rabbit Max is hungry, and a messy eater. His sister Ruby is determined to get him clean, no matter how many baths it takes!
