Our theme for the FIFTH storytime of the spring session was PANDAS!  We read about Panda’s play date with his friend Fox and we read a rhyming board book about five very hungry pandas.  What follows are the books, bounces, nursery rhymes, fingerplays and flannel boards we shared.

BOOKS WE SHARED

In Play Date for Panda, Panda goes over to Fox’s house for his first play date.  Panda is a bit shy and doesn’t know what to expect but as soon as Fox opens the door it’s nothing but fun and excitement.  Fortunately, Panda forgets all about his fears and has a great time!!!

Five Hungry Pandas is all about – you guessed it – FIVE HUNGRY PANDAS!!!  Along with some reading, counting and munching, this book has a great rhyming cadence and bold illustrations making it the perfect book to read aloud to infants.  There is also the “countdown” (5, 5, 3, 2, 1 hungry panda)  which makes it fun and gives that element of anticipation throughout.

Action Songs, Rhymes & Bounces We Shared

We share a lot of songs, bounces & rhymes during storytime!
You’ll find lyrics/words to those songs & rhymes we shared without CD accompaniment here.

Welcome Song
(to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star)

Welcome, welcome everyone,
Now we’re here let’s have some fun!
First we clap our hands just so,
Then we bend and touch our toes.
Welcome, welcome everyone,
Now we’re here let’s have some fun!

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

Video:  Twinkle Twinkle

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
How I wonder what you are
Up above the world so high
Like a diamond in the sky
Twinkle Twinkle little star
How I wonder what you are.

Dickery Dickery Dare (bounce)

Video:  Dickery Dickery Dare

Dickery dickery dare,
The pig flew up in the air –
Wooooo!
The man in brown,
Brought him back down,
Dickery dickery dare!

The Grand Old Duke of York (bounce)

Video:  The Grand Old Duke of York

Oh, the grand old Duke of York,
He had ten thousand men;
He marched them up to the top of the hill
And he marched them down again.
When they were up, they were up,
And when they were down, they were down,
And when they were only halfway up,
They were neither up nor down.

 Peas Porridge Hot! (nursery rhyme)

Video:  Peas Porridge Hot

Peas porridge hot
Peas porridge cold
Peas porridge in the pot, nine days old!
Some like it hot
Some like it cold
Some like it in the pot, nine days old!

NEW! I am a Panda (To the tune of You Are My Sunshine)

I am a panda
A furry panda
I live in China
And eat bamboo
It is a thick grass
That grows in my land
And it’s not that easy to chew.

Tickle:  Round and round the garden, goes the Teddy Bear, a one-step, a two-step, a tickle under there.

One Two Buckle My Shoe! (nursery rhyme)

Video:  One Two Buckle My Shoe

One, two, buckle my shoe;

Three, four, knock at the door;

Five, six, pick up sticks;

Seven, eight, lay them straight:

Nine, ten, a big fat hen!

Goodbye Friends (song in sign)
