Lucha Libros welcomed three new participants last night, and all of them did a great job competing alongside kids who have been doing this all year long! The book which was the subject of our questions last night was The Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney, and the questions were tough! It was actually difficult putting together questions for this one because of the many plot points in the book that were covered in the movie. But it was obvious that the kids all read and loved the book. They discussed it fabulously. When I asked them “Would you want Greg Heffley for a best friend?” their reply was a unanimous NO! Which is super funny considering the billions of hours kids all over the country have spent with Greg Heffley while reading about him in Kinney’s bestselling series! But it’s also good because they were able to articulate very well what a good friend does, and based on what I’ve observed, they all seem quite successful in their own friendships as well!

Not as many kids got the bonus question right this time, so the scores varied more widely. But in general I was very impressed with how well they did. It was not lost on me that there were lots of kids who had gotten every question correct before the bonus round! My hat goes off to them for all the studying they did!

Here are a few pics of our winners–and EVERYBODY, regardless of number of tickets earned, is a WINNER in every way:

And I have to say something about this one: Ilan’s Lucha Libre mask was just SO AWESOME! Thanks for really embracing the spirit of Lucha Libros! Ilan is shown here holding our next month’s book, Maximilian and the Mystery of the Guardian Angel by Xavier Garza. Like Diary of a Wimpy Kid, we have this book in our JRHI section but parents are encouraged to read it to their kids. We will also be reading The Magic School Bus Inside the Earth by Joanna Cole.

Can’t wait to see everyone again next month!
