Have you ever wondered where we get the music we use at our storytimes?  Would you like to check out the CDs to sing the music at home?  Kids love these songs and most of them are based on folk songs and songs that have a lot of action and motion.  Here I have compiled a list of the recordings I use at my storytimes.  Many of them are classics that have been used here for years, but some things might be new, because I’m still somewhat new here.

Check them out!

Songs for Wiggleworms
The Old Town School of Folk Music

CD ZM COLL SW O 05

A hip take on old folk songs!

I use: “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” and I like how it adds new verses to the song.

It’s Toddler Time
Carol Hammett and Elaine Bueffel
CD ZM HAMM ITT K 15
Songs especially for toddlers.

I use: “Itsy Bitsy Spider” and sometimes “Teddy Bear.”

Toddlers on Parade
Carol Hammett and Elaine Bueffel
CD ZI EXER TP K 02

Kimbo recordings does a great job with activity songs, and this is one of the best.

I use: “Roll Your Hands” at my Toddler Storytimes.

Wiggleworms Love You

Old Town School of Folk Music

CD AM WIGG WLY O 01

Charming folk songs, contains songs in a variety of languages, and a nice mix of new and traditional tunes.  Probably my favorite children’s music album, just because I find the songs are usually in a great key for singing, and the arrangements are light and fresh.

I use: “I’m a Little Teapot” as a movement song and “Ladies Ride” as a bounce for Infant Storytimes.  For my preschool storytimes, I use “Clap Your Hands” as the welcome song and “If I Was a Bird” as a movement song.  I also use “I Can Sing a Rainbow” as nice background music when people are settling in.

Sally Go Round the Sun

Kathy Reid-Naiman

CD ZM REID SGR M 02

I use: “Clap Everybody and Say Hello” as the welcome song for Infant and Toddler storytimes.

Smooth Road to London Town

Kathy Reid-Naiman

CD ZM REID SRL P 01

I use: “A Smooth Road to London Town” as a bounce for Infant Storytimes.

The Singable Songs Collection

Raffi

Our copy is kept in Librarian Resource Center and is not available for checkout.  However, Glendale’s copies do circulate.  And we have a lot of Raffi CDs available under CD ZM RAFF.

I use: “Shake My Sillies Out” for my preschool storytimes.

Animal Songs and Stories

Susie Tallman and Friends

CD ZM TALL ASS R 12

I use: “The Owl and the Pussycat” as pretty background music when people are coming in, and I sometimes use “Five Little Ducks,” “Kookaburra,” “Old MacDonald,” and “Fiddle I Fee” with preschoolers.
