Age 12, Grade 7<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I shut my eyes<\/span><\/p>\n

For the night\u2019s rest.<\/span><\/p>\n

In rushed to my head<\/span><\/p>\n

A vision so absurd<\/span><\/p>\n

I was left paralyzed.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For I saw a person<\/span><\/p>\n

That I know to be dead.<\/span><\/p>\n

With his body deep<\/span><\/p>\n

In the ground where it can<\/span><\/p>\n

Not be reached nor exhumed.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He laughed and joked<\/span><\/p>\n

As if it were a prank.<\/span><\/p>\n

That he was alive<\/span><\/p>\n

All these years.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Watching us cry from<\/span><\/p>\n

A tree so tall that it was<\/span><\/p>\n

In the clouds where<\/span><\/p>\n

No one could climb.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I asked him \u201cWhat are<\/span><\/p>\n

We going to do with<\/span><\/p>\n

Your grave?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He jokingly replied<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll save it for next time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I pinched myself not<\/span><\/p>\n

Knowing what to think.<\/span><\/p>\n

But nothing happened<\/span><\/p>\n

Nothing had changed.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As I reached to touch<\/span><\/p>\n

Him I began to shiver.<\/span><\/p>\n

My hand slowly touched<\/span><\/p>\n

Him and I became sacred.<\/span><\/p>\n

As if I was in a haunted maze.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

My fantasy of a dream<\/span><\/p>\n

Slowly turned to a nightmare.<\/span><\/p>\n

I tried to wake up<\/span><\/p>\n

But I failed as I<\/span><\/p>\n

was still looking at him.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I started running<\/span><\/p>\n

For many miles.<\/span><\/p>\n

He followed me like<\/span><\/p>\n

My guardian angel.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Not letting any harm<\/span><\/p>\n

To come to me.<\/span><\/p>\n

Suddenly I wasn\u2019t scared.<\/span><\/p>\n

But I felt a feeling of comfort<\/span><\/p>\n

Come upon me.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I laid in his arms.<\/span><\/p>\n

The longer I was<\/span><\/p>\n

there I felt his<\/span><\/p>\n

Heartbeat getting<\/span><\/p>\n

Slower and slower.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Suddenly my eyes opened.<\/span><\/p>\n

For this was<\/span><\/p>\n

Nothing but an astonishing<\/span><\/p>\n

Dream.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Relieved but disappointed<\/span><\/p>\n

I went on with my day.<\/span><\/p>\n

Knowing that this was<\/span><\/p>\n

All in my head.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

For I had dreamed<\/span><\/p>\n

About my late uncle.<\/span><\/p>\n

Whose memory always<\/span><\/p>\n

Lies in my mind.<\/span><\/p>\n
