Where\u2019s Mommy?\u201d Nasir asked. \u201cShh! She\u2019ll be right back.\u201d Fatima, an eleven year old was near Damascus in an abandoned building with her little brother Nasir. Their mother Asrin had left them two days ago and she was still not back, which meant that she was most likely dead.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fatima allowed herself a sigh. Now she was the most responsible one, though where could they go? Europe was said to be a safe haven for refugees right now, but how would they get there? Nasir wouldn\u2019t be able to take it. \u200b<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It\u2019s like being trapped between bad and worse.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u200b But they had to go.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cOkay, let\u2019s move.\u201d She stood up and gestured for Nasir to do the same. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWhat about Mommy?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cShe, uhh,\u201d \u200b<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">oh no, how do I say this? <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u200b\u201cShe found another place. Come on, she\u2019s waiting!\u201d Fatima didn\u2019t say how long their mom would be waiting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Several days later, close to the border of Lebanon, Nasir collapsed again. \u201cFati, I can\u2019t.\u201d He rolled over on his stomach and closed his eyes. Fatima sat down next to him, her breath ragged and legs burned. They were so close. A little more, and it\u2019d be over.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As she was about to close her eyes, she heard a weird sound. When Fatima opened her eyes, she saw it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A rescuer.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The red helicopter flew low, and on it was the symbol of a red cross.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This new land was Germany. A family had volunteered to adopt Fatima and Nasir, and they were starting school. The only words Fatima knew was \u2018<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">guten tag<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2019 which means \u2018good day\u2019 and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2018danke\u2019<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for \u2018thanks\u2019. Even so, she\u2019d definitely choose this instead of going back.
