by Hannah Cahalan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Young Readers League 2018 Writing Contest<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Honorable Mention<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Category 2 (ages 12-14)<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Hannah Cahalan<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Age 12 (Grade 7), Blair Middle School<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWho Reads The Waterfall On The Other Side\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The mage stared at the waterfall as it glinted in the sun<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The water rushing down as it filled up the lake bellow<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He drew his wand and began to write onto the waterfall as if it were paper, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">And in it, he wrote a message to whoever could see.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI am a powerful mage<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI have so much to desire, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cBut I am very lonely<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI need someone to help me\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Several days later, the mage returned to the waterfall <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The glare of the light blinded his eyes<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He saw someone had replied<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To his cry of loneliness<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cHello, great mage\u201d the water read <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI\u2019m here to answer your plea <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cFor whenever you feel sadness, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cCome back here and write to me\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The mage pondered as to who <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The other person could be<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">But now, at least, he had someone <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Who cared about his feelings<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He wrote along the water <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Another tale of sorrow<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">His sadness being poured<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Into the words that he scrawled<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI had a beautiful wife<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI loved her more than anything<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cBut one day she vanished into thin air <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cAnd I can\u2019t find her anywhere\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Immediately something on the other end<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Began to compose a reply<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cMaybe instead of searching for her and worrying <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cYou should find out why\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cYou should find out why she left <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cOr what could have taken her<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s ok to worry, everyone does,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cBut you can\u2019t stretch yourself thin with it\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cYou sound just like my wife\u201d the mage wrote <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">And then he began to cry<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s ok\u201d the other wrote<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s ok to cry\u201d it replied<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Thank you to our judges: McKenna Blackshire, Alaina Joby, Nick Smith<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/teens\/2018\/young-readers-league-contest-winners\/\">Click here to view a list of all our contest winners<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Young Readers League 2018 Writing Contest Honorable Mention Category 2 (ages 12-14) &nbsp;
