This book is set in modern day, and it really puts the fiction in science fiction, with magical science that does not check out. The plot is somewhat engaging, however, and takes a new tack at a tried subject. Jane Doe, a test subject in a secure facility, is abused mentally daily. She does meet one person, Landon, who helps her leave her current situation, and find the reason why she was being tested—she and other young adults have powers capable of saying a word and causing it to happen. She ends up struggling to find her place, and is engulfed in a love triangle as well.
This book was rather bland to read. It has rubber science, a tried and tested plot, but few twists on the original. The book is still not super unique, but the powers are at least used in interesting manners. The writer does leave me wanting to see more with the book done, especially maybe shying away from the typical formula and trying something new. I can’t really recommend this book too much, since it will appeal to a niche audience that enjoys this kind of genre. 2/5 stars.

Find this book in our catalog: Whisper

Catalog Number: On Call

312 pages

review by John Chon, age 16 Whisper by Lynette Noni Whisper, by Lynette Noni, is a science-fiction book, one of many that have proliferated the scene as of late.
