It’s the story about, well, a witch hunter. Elizabeth is one of her country’s best witch hunters. She’s completely dedicated to her quest of finding all magic users and making sure they burn for their “crimes.” Then, she gets accused of witchcraft herself and becomes the country’s most wanted fugitive after she escapes jail. Finding herself with no friends and running from the only family she’s every had, Elizabeth is forced to help the most powerful magic user and the witch hunter’s biggest target (besides her of course).

The setting was fitting. Throughout the book, I was constantly reminded of the seventeenth century witch hunts of Europe and America. The Witch Hunter seems to be placed during this time, but can still appeal to a more modern time. The magic is pretty traditional (potions, charms, soothsaying, etc.), but magic, although illegal, is so ingrained into the society that it gives the magic a casual feel. Although magic is still pretty cool in this book, it isn’t a huge deal. If the premise of this book even remotely interests you, read it. The book has a great plot that draws you in. I was reading this late into the night (or early into the morning?). Once I started, I didn’t want to stop reading until I found out what happened.

At times, characters didn’t really act like real people. Their reasoning was either too obvious or wasn’t very rational. The author also could have done a better job of describing the thought process of the characters, giving them more depth. Some scenes were described in ways that made them seem less important than they were supposed to be. Overall, if you enjoy books that have an interesting plot and are not bothered by a fairly run-of-the-mill narration, read this book. 3.5 stars –Kara, teen reviewer

Thank you to New Leaf Literary & Media for sending an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book will be released on June 2, 2015.

Pre-order a copy from Vromans or find the book in our catalog: The Witch Hunter

review by Kara, teen reviewer The Witch Hunter by Virginia Boecker The Witch Hunter was pretty good.
