We celebrated the end of our Summer Reading Challenge in Doctor Who style. \u00a0Some of the ideas and a bulk of the decor was planned by the Teen Advisory Board (TAB).<\/p>\n

Decor<\/h2>\n

Teen volunteers decorated the patio with “Bad Wolf” chalk “graffiti”, scavenger hunt items, and a full size Tardis, which was hand made by TAB member Sarah Marshall.<\/p>\n

Food<\/h2>\n

I was limited to serving food that could withstand the heat (it was a very humid 85 degrees): \u00a0lasagna, “fishsticks” & custard, and lots and lots of sweets. \u00a0Cookie cutters were purchased from Etsy and Think Geek; brownie bites were wrapped with these cupcake templates<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Adipose Challenge<\/h2>\n

Teens competed in the Adipose Challenge. \u00a0They\u00a0used mini marshmallows and dry spaghetti to build a structure, then suspended a large adipose marshmallow to the top of their structure. \u00a0Participants\u00a0were able to work in groups, but for every extra member of the group, an adipose was added. \u00a0The highest freestanding structure is the winner. \u00a0The time limit was 15 minutes.<\/p>\n

Musical Fez<\/h2>\n

It’s like Hot Potato, but with a fez. \u00a0TAB member, Ben Su, conjured the music and hosted two rounds.<\/p>\n

DIY Fez<\/h2>\n

Supplies, equipment, and instructions were set out for teens to make their own fezzes. \u00a0TAB member Kara Eng came up with this idea. \u00a0To make your own, see instructions here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Scavenger Hunt<\/h2>\n

Like DIY fez, this was a passive activity. \u00a0Attendees were given a sheet of paper listing all the current and past doctors (Doctors 1-11) and were asked to find a trademark item for each. \u00a0Eleven items were marked with the DW logo and were placed all around the patio. \u00a0The one(s) that came the closest to finding them all won a prize. \u00a0No one found all the items, but one came very close at identifying ten items.<\/p>\n

Costume Contest<\/h2>\n

And finally, for everyone who came in costume, there was a contest. \u00a0Several volunteers acted as judges, and first and second place winners were selected.<\/p>\n

Prizes<\/h2>\n

We gave away buttons, magnets, and 3D glasses too all attendees. \u00a0Prizes were awarded for the winners of Musical Fez, Scavenger Hunt, Costume Contest, and Adipose Challenge. \u00a0TAB member Kara pressed all the buttons & magnets and the rest of the prizes were purchased from Hot Topic.<\/p>\n
