But the bulk of the planning and implementation happens during the TAB meetings, and most of the TAB projects are multi-faceted with many steps,\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif\">so it&#8217;s unlikely non-TAB members will get to help very much.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>How do I join TAB?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ages 13-17<\/li>\n<li>Attend the monthly meetings (currently on a Saturday); Meetings take place at Jefferson Branch Library.<\/li>\n<li>Apply by submitting a <span style=\"color: #0000ff\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff\" href=\"https:\/\/cityofpasadena.libwizard.com\/f\/TeenVolunteerApplication\">volunteer application<\/a> <\/span>for Jefferson Branch Library.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How do I stay on TAB?<\/strong>\u00a0Joining is easy. Staying on TAB requires a little more work.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Attend as many of the official monthly meetings as possible.<\/li>\n<li>Year-round commitment<\/li>\n<li>Participation in online discussions, committee work, and pre-meeting assignments (this may include additional volunteer shifts)<\/li>\n<li>Excellent communication skills and highly dedicated<\/li>\n<li>Ability to work well independently and with the rest of TAB<\/li>\n<li>The monthly time commitment is approximately 4 hours per month.<\/li>\n<li>You don&#8217;t need experience to join, but you do need to be able to attend meetings, come in for extra projects, and work well independently and with the rest of the team.<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s okay if you go on vacation or are less involved one month than the other. Missing here and there is fine, but not for a lengthy period. Refer to the\u00a0TAB Participation Agreement at the bottom of this page.<\/li>\n<li>If you don&#8217;t know, join and test it out.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What are some TAB specific projects?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Planning and implementing the annual Teen Murder Mystery<\/li>\n<li>Representing library teens and TAB at Youth Network, City Council meetings, community fairs<\/li>\n<li>Facilitating and sustaining Teen Central activities (at Central Library) such as monthly game days, book clubs, crafts,<\/li>\n<li>Library system-wide \/ community teen programs and initiatives like the Teen <a href=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/teens\/teen-advisory-board\/mental-health-initiative\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Mental Health Initiative<\/span><\/a>, Summer Reading<\/li>\n<li>Advises staff and pilots programs and services for teens<\/li>\n<li>Establishing a new video game and board game lending collection<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What do I gain from being on TAB?\u00a0<\/strong> If you are active for at least two continuous years, you&#8217;ll gain insight and experience in complex planning and organization, including some basic understanding of City level policies on finance procedures and budgeting. You&#8217;ll explore creative, practical, and innovative applications of various ideas. You&#8217;ll balance working in teams and individually, practice creative problem solving, and how to be more inclusive. Sometimes members help create new lending collections, write grants, select furniture, books, and games. Most members also get to facilitate, instruct, or lead a library program.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is TAB&#8217;s mission and vision?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Teen Advisory Board\u2019s mission<\/span><strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is to provide teens in the community with support through educational and entertaining events, opportunities, and resources, while closing the achievement gap and preparing teens for a successful and fulfilling life.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The vision for TAB membership is for every member to be an effective leader. She is currently reading El conde Lucanor by Juan Manuel, has a preference for black coffee, and is endlessly inspired by Ella Fitzgerald.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Elise Chen<\/strong>, Grade 12<\/p>\n<p><em>Elise Chen is a senior of the class of 2026, who has been a leader of the Teen advisory board for two years and a member for four years. She has brought her passion for wellness, community building, and uplifting her community through education &#8211; branching San Marino and Pasadena together by leading numerous programs through TAB such as gardening, yoga, and writing. Channeling her love for wellness and community-building in her personal time, she loves karate, backpacking in the Sierras, going to Church, and reading and reviewing\u00a0books.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Paige Teng<\/strong>, Grade 12<\/p>\n<p><em>Paige Teng is part of the class of 2026 who has been part of Teen Advisory Board since her sophomore year. Within TAB, she has helped plan take and makes for mental health and sleep habits which has been a valuable avenue to express her passion of working with other high school students. Beyond her role at the library, she loves baking, taking dance classes, and listening to music.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>August Bhattacharya<\/strong>, Grade 9<\/p>\n<p data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\"><em>August is a student at the California School for the Arts &#8211; San Gabriel Valley, where he is part of the acting conservatory. When he&#8217;s not at school or acting he enjoys working with technology, spending time with his family, and volunteering.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kaitlyn Nava<\/strong>, Grade 9<\/p>\n<p><em>Kaitlyn is a student at Westridge School for Girls. Her favorite subject is either English or science. In her spare time you can find her playing tennis, baking, and haning out with her friends.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Elliot Park<\/strong>, Grade 11<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><em>Elliott is a student at Flintridge Preparatory school where he leads club life and student wellness. At school, he is part of the student senate, a member of the volleyball team, and competitive speech and debater. Outside of school, he is a leader in his local scouting troop, a saxophonist in his local orchestra, and a children&#8217;s leader at his church. In his free time, he loves to read, watch sitcoms on Netflix, and rate restaurants on Beli.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Shannon Yan<\/strong>, Grade 11<\/p>\n<p>Shannon is currently a junior at Gabrielino High School. In her free time, she enjoys crocheting, painting, and reading. She is interested in majoring in Human Biology and is exploring a career in dermatology.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nina Kato<\/strong>, Grade 9<\/p>\n<p><em>Nina Kato is a sophomore at California School of the Arts. Outside of school, she enjoys coding or indulging in some sweet treats. She also loves watching musicals and Marvel movies.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jane Kim<\/strong>, Grade 11<\/p>\n<p><em>Jane is a student at Westridge School for Girls. She loves to write stories and her goal in life is to have her work appear on the New York Times #1 Bestseller list. She also loves listening to Maya Hawke, collecting Korean lip glosses, and watching soccer with her family. Jane is also very interested in social justice and loves to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice, both in her writing and in everyday life.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Annie Delbridge<\/strong>, Grade 10<\/p>\n<p><em>Annie Delbridge is a sophomore at Polytechnic School who finds joy in using language to trace emotion and connection both on stage and in written verse. She serves as assistant news editor of The Paw Print, her school\u2019s newspaper, is an alumna of the Interlochen Creative Writing program, and founded Page to Stage, a school club dedicated to performative literature and spoken word. She enjoys reading Latin, fencing, and discussing poetry, and in her free time, finds delight in exploring all things Disney.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Teen Advisory Board is directed by Youth Services Librarian <strong>Ernesto Covarrubias<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Implementation<\/h2>\n<p>TAB makes up approximately 15% of Pasadena Public Library\u2019s Teen Volunteer Program. Three non-consecutive excused absences per school year may be\u00a0allowed. A TAB member may not miss more than 50% of the meetings in a school year (also excused or unexcused). If a member has an absence, they must participate in the email threads, or stay engaged in some way.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A TAB member must turn in pre-meeting assignments by the midnight before the meeting.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Each TAB Chair will keep track of their workgroup tasks via an online database or method to be determined.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Each TAB member must contribute to workgroup assignments as determined by the Chair of the group or supervisor.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Excused absences are circumstances\u00a0such as family emergencies, family trips, sports games, illness, or transportation issues. Other extenuating circumstances are access issues (no internet\/computer at home), unstable housing, or unstable environments.
