“A House Full of History”

by Raahi Pearce

Age 12

Summary:  Geoffrey uncovers some of his house’s stories.

Geoffrey Harrison Johnfield lived in a three story house by himself. The reason he could afford such a grand house was because of his many art paintings that he sold. He was a wonderful artist. He had been ever since he was a child. When he first got his house, he felt like there was something hiding within the place. Something waiting to be found.

One day, he was going up the wooden staircase when one of the steps collapsed. He fell into another staircase that went down into a cellar. It was completely dark, except for one spotlight, which was focused on something in the center of the room. Out of curiosity, Geoffrey went to the center of the room and saw a chest. He looked around to see if there was anyone else there.

There wasn’t.

He opened the chest and found a pistol inside. He checked to see if there were any bullets inside it. There weren’t. But taped to one side of the pistol was a picture of a man standing in a general’s outfit holding the very same pistol. He took the chest with the pistol and the picture from the cellar. Then he called the person who sold him the house.

After he told them what he had found, they said, “Oh, you didn’t know? This house was

the home of a union general during the American Civil War.” Geoffrey let the information sink

in for a few weeks. He began to realize that his home had more stories to tell.
