Today’s storytime was all about insects, from butterflies to ladybugs, from beetles to bees!<\/p>\n

Books We Shared<\/h4>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

Butterfly, Butterfly<\/strong><\/a> by Petr Horacek is a lovely book about a girl exploring all the bugs in her backyard, and it finishes with a beautiful pop-up butterfly that was a big hit! <\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

Some Bugs<\/a><\/strong> by Angela DiTerlizzi and illustrated by Brendan Wenzel shows how different bugs move, sound, hide and fly. We abridged it a lot and started in the middle of the book. Abridging books is often necessary for infant and toddler storytimes, because children this age can’t sit still that long. A book may have many qualities that make it good for infants and toddlers despite being longer. I always try to pick books that involve some movement prompts, so that kids can wiggle their fingers like a crawling caterpillar, or flap their arms like wings, and this one has plenty of those kinds of action words!<\/p>\n

I was so excited to break out a brand-new flannelboard set we purchased for the library, with beautiful prints from Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar<\/a>. I hope my telling was faithful to the book!<\/p>\n
