Sensory Storytime is a fun, interactive, educational\u00a0storytime designed for preschool age children with autism and\/or sensory challenges.\u00a0 It involves books, songs, movement and\u00a0therapeutic play\u00a0that incorporate the five senses.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

THEME:\u00a0 Halloween<\/h5>\n

Stories<\/h4>\n

The books chosen for Sensory Storytime are the same books we would choose for a toddler or preschool storytime.\u00a0 They need to be colorful with simple text and a well-defined concept or a linear, easy-to-follow story.\u00a0 If we have a group of children who have difficulty sitting through even a few pages, we can paraphrase the text or use props such as handheld puppets to\u00a0encourage engagement.<\/p>\n

Flannelboard<\/h4>\n

Shivery Shades of Halloween<\/a>\u00a0is<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>a book\u00a0about Halloween <\/em>colors and during our storytime it was accompanied by\u00a0a flannel board activity.\u00a0\u00a0As we\u00a0explored the colors in the\u00a0book,\u00a0each child got a chance\u00a0to place a circle of a different color on\u00a0our\u00a0handheld flannel board.\u00a0 Using this technique during the\u00a0storytime made\u00a0the\u00a0book come alive for the children, gave an extra tactile component,\u00a0increased participation and enhanced opportunities for learning and social interaction.<\/p>\n
