In last week’s Saturday Preschool Storytime we sheared — eerrr I mean, SHARED, books about sheep!<\/p>\n

Books We Shared<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/a>
\nIn Boo and Baa Have Company by Lena and Olof Landstr\u00f6m<\/a>, it’s autumn, and sheep Boo and Baa are raking leaves when they hear a strange meowing.\u00a0 Where is it coming from?\u00a0 There’s the cat — stuck in the tree.\u00a0 The sheep try to get the cat down – with a plank, luring it with food, but all they do is manage to get Boo stuck in the tree too!\u00a0 Maybe the cat doesn’t want to get down.\u00a0 Or does he?<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Did you know that sheep are baaa-d drivers?\u00a0 Or, at least, the sheep in Nancy Shaw’s Sheep in a Jeep, illustrated by Margot Apple<\/a> are.\u00a0 They don’t look where they are going on get their jeep stuck, and ruined!\u00a0 But they are enthusiastic, and it sure is fun to read this rhyming romp of a story.<\/p>\n

Flannelboard Story<\/h2>\n

Most of us know that Mary had a little lamb, but in our flannelboard story she had more than just one lamb!<\/p>\n

Mary’s Many Color Lambs<\/span><\/p>\n

\n(Rhyme from Lisa at\u00a0Libraryland,\u00a0<\/a>who found it from\u00a0LibrErin<\/a>, who found it on\u00a0Recipes for Reading.<\/a>\u00a0Recipes for Reading<\/a>\u00a0linked to a template\u00a0at\u00a0<\/span>Making Learning Fun\u00a0<\/a>that I used to make the sheep pieces.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sing:<\/em>
\nMary had a little lamb
\nlittle lamb, little lamb
\nMary had a little lamb
\nits fleece was white as snow.<\/p>\n

But Mary had more than one lamb!\u00a0Pull out a different color lamb.<\/em>
\nWhat color is this? (Blue!)<\/em>
\nAnd what else is blue? (The sky!)<\/em><\/p>\n

Then sing:<\/em>
\nMary had a blue lamb
\nblue lamb, blue lamb
\nMary had a blue lamb
\nits fleece was blue as sky\u2026<\/p>\n

Continue using as many colors\/lambs as you\u2019d like.<\/p>\n

We were lambs and dancing sheep in our movements for this storytime.<\/p>\n

Dancing Sheep<\/span>

Shhh!\u00a0 It\u2019s time to go to sleep
\n\u00a0 (put finger to mouth, pretend to sleep)<\/em>
\nBut into my bedroom one sheep creeps.
\n\u00a0 (creep fingers)<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019t go to bed,\u201d the one sheep said.
\n\u201cI would rather dance instead!\u201d<\/p>\n

Soon he was\u2026\u00a0\u00a0(draw these words out)<\/em>
\nDancing on the ceiling!
\n(move hands above head in \u201cdancing\u201d motion)<\/em>
\nHe was dancing on the floor!
\n\u00a0 (move hands on floor as mentioned above)<\/em>
\nHe was dancing on the window!
\n\u00a0 (move hands to one side)<\/em>
\nHe was dancing on the door!
\n\u00a0 (move hands to other side)<\/em><\/p>\n

He kept on\u2026<\/p>\n

Dancing on the ceiling!
\n\u00a0 (sing faster)<\/em>
\nHe was dancing on the floor!
\nHe was dancing on the window!
\nHe was dancing on the door!
\n(repeat several times getting faster each time through)<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cStop that dancing, silly sheep.
\nIt is time to go to sleep!\u201d<\/p>\n

Soon the sheep lay on the floor.
\nSoon the sheep began to snore.<\/p>\n

\u201cCharlie Needs a Cloak\u201d from Click, Clack, Moo Cows that Type …and More Fun on the Farm<\/a>. Based on\u00a0the\u00a0book by Tomie dePaola<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Everyone says Charlie the shepherd needs a new cloak.\u00a0 As the seasons change, Charlie uses wool from his sheep to make one for himself.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n
