We had lots of fun\u00a0during our preschool storytime last Saturday!\u00a0 Whales snuck into each of our stories – whales that grew too large to keep in the bathtub, whales with advice and whales that appeared in a\u00a0great “messterpiece” created by an “ocean” artist.\u00a0 Sound strange?\u00a0 Maybe.\u00a0 But remember, nothing’s impossible during storytime.\u00a0 Here are some of the books, songs\u00a0and activities we shared.<\/p>\n

Books We Shared<\/h4>\n

\"\"\u00a0\u00a0 \"\"<\/a> \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

\u00a0Fish Story<\/span><\/strong> by Keith Faulkner and Jonathan Lambert is about a little boy who finds a tiny grey fish in his net while fishing in a tide pool.\u00a0 He puts the fish in a jar and brings it home\u2026but it grows too big for the jar!\u00a0 So he places it in the bathtub but it grows too big for the tub!\u00a0\u00a0He finally realizes it is much too big to keep, so\u00a0he puts it in a wheelbarrow and takes it\u00a0back to the sea.\u00a0 He gets a goldfish instead but he misses his \u201cBIG\u201d fish.\u00a0 Every now and then he can see the fish from his bedroom window.\u00a0 Truth\u00a0be told, his fish is really a WHALE!\u00a0 A great \u201cfish\u201d story with a few lift the flap surprises!<\/p>\n

In Puffin Peter <\/span><\/strong><\/a>by Petr Horacek,\u00a0two puffins named Peter and Paul are the best of friends.\u00a0 They go out diving one day but a terrible storm brews and\u00a0Peter gets lost.\u00a0 Paul frantically looks for Peter and runs into a blue whale who offers\u00a0to help.\u00a0\u00a0They let the ocean take them to the\u00a0arctic, the tropics and the jungle where they finds birds that share some of Peter’s physical characteristics but they aren’t Peter!\u00a0\u00a0Finally , they\u00a0land on some tiny islands where they find Peter safe and sound!\u00a0 A picture book with vivid drawings, emotional suspense and opportunities to identify different birds.\u00a0 A great read aloud for preschoolers.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Kevin Sherry’s funny and colorful picture book, I’m the Best Artist in the Ocean<\/span><\/strong><\/a>, begins with a very talented\u00a0giant squid painting and drawing his surroundings.\u00a0 He draws fish, crabs, manta rays, jelly fish – anything he sees. Well he splashes some little fish with paint and they get a bit perturbed but it isn’t until he runs into a cranky shark who asks him to “STOP!” that he unveils his “messterpiece” –\u00a0a giant whale with a number of sea creatures inside his belly.\u00a0 Fantastic visuals, humor and a pull out surprise make this very appealing for younger children.<\/p>\n
