Our 6th storytime of the summer session was all about Food!\u00a0\u00a0We also had a visit from Max the Mouse.\u00a0 I guess mice really do love to eat..at least that is what we learned from\u00a0the first story we shared.\u00a0 Here\u00a0are\u00a0the books,\u00a0songs, rhymes, flannel stories and activities we explored about our topic.<\/p>\n

We\u00a0read the book Lunch<\/span><\/a> by Denise Fleming but we also used\u00a0flannel board pieces to make the story really come alive!\u00a0 Lunch is all about a mouse who loves to EAT!\u00a0 He wakes up soooo\u00a0hungry that he eats through a turnip, some carrots, an ear of corn, some green peas, berries, grapes, apples and even a big slice of watermelon.\u00a0 After all that eating, he goes back to bed…UNTIL DINNERTIME!\u00a0 This is a great book to introduce babies to different types of food.\u00a0 It is beautifully illustrated but the colors are a bit subdued.\u00a0 That is why the flannel pieces work so well as a supplement to the story.\u00a0 Infants can see the larger, more colorful pieces\u00a0which keeps them\u00a0engaged in the story.<\/p>\n

In Guess What? Fruit<\/span><\/a>, Yusuke Yonezu takes us on a guessing game.\u00a0\u00a0Pictures of\u00a0different fruits turn into\u00a0animals with lift-the-flaps in this interactive book.\u00a0 A banana turns into a duck, an orange turns into a horse…it’s magic.\u00a0 The illustrations are simple making the “animal” surprise that much more\u00a0effective.\u00a0Infants learn their fruits AND expand their visual imaginations.<\/p>\n
