\nHaving a giraffe friend sounds like fun, right? \u00a0Maybe not, as we found out in Giraffes Ruin Everything<\/a><\/em> by Heidi Schulz, illustrated by Chris Robertson. \u00a0Birthday parties, the park, ice cream — all of these things are ruined for our narrator by a giraffe. \u00a0Is there anything that giraffes make better? \u00a0Find out by reading this silly story.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Our second book, Abigail<\/a> by Catherine Rayner, featured a giraffe who loves to count. \u00a0But all the things around her move before she finishes counting them. \u00a0Can her friends help her find the perfect thing to count? \u00a0You can count on it in this sweet tale.<\/p>\n

Abigail the giraffe would have liked the flannelboard story we shared, because it’s all about counting!<\/p>\n

Color and Count Giraffes<\/span>

First, we figured out what color the spots were on one giraffe. \u00a0Then we sang this song:<\/p>\n

(To the tune of “Mary Wore Her Red Dress”)
\nThis giraffe has\u00a0red\u00a0<\/em>spots,
\nred\u00a0<\/em>spots,\u00a0red\u00a0<\/em>spots.
\nThis giraffe has\u00a0red\u00a0<\/em>spots.
\nCount them with me now.<\/p>\n

Count the spots on the giraffe, then bring out another giraffe and repeat.<\/p>\n

With the blank giraffe we sang:
\nThis giraffe has\u00a0no\u00a0<\/em>spots,
\nno <\/em>spots, no<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>spots.
\nThis giraffe has no<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>spots.
\nNo more spots to count.<\/p>\n

It’s hard to see from the photo, but the spots the giraffes have are:

I’m a Giraffe<\/span>
\nI’m a big tall giraffe stretching way up high\u00a0(reach arms up overhead)<\/em>
\nA big tall giraffe, I almost reach the sky (stand up on tip toes)<\/em>
\nI eat the leaves from the tallest of trees (pretend to eat like giraffe, rub tummy)<\/em>
\nAnd when I run I move with ease (run in place)<\/em>
\nI’m a big tall giraffe stretching way up high\u00a0(reach arms up overhead)<\/em>
\nWay… up… high! (stand on tip toes)<\/i><\/p>\n

Every year, the jungle has a dance off. \u00a0When Gerald the giraffe steps into the center perform, all the other animals laugh at him – he’s so clumsy! \u00a0But they are in for a surprise later in the night when they see Gerald dancing under the light of the moon.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n
