Our second storytime of the summer session\u00a0was all about the concept of OPPOSITES<\/strong> ~ fast & slow, yes & no,\u00a0black &\u00a0white, day & night and so on!\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Exposing your toddler\u00a0to\u00a0concepts\u00a0through books, songs and rhymes\u00a0contributes to\u00a0brain development.\u00a0 Just think of the neural connections your\u00a0 child’s brain is making during our 30 minutes together!<\/p>\n

The US Department of Education has a great webpage which outlines the\u00a0benefits of reading aloud to your child, along with\u00a0suggestions on how to\u00a0maximize the fun and learning when you share this activity together.\u00a0 If you want to access that information, click here:\u00a0 USDeptEducation<\/a><\/p>\n

Books We Shared<\/h4>\n

In Where is the Green Sheep<\/a>?<\/span> by Mem Fox we find the blue sheep, the red sheep, the UP sheep, the DOWN sheep, the NEAR\u00a0 sheep and the FAR SHEEP…\u00a0\u00a0 but we can’t seem to find the GREEN sheep!\u00a0 Well, not until the very last page at least!\u00a0 Opposites are woven into the tapestry of this picture book which also teaches children colors, moves through different locales (beach, circus…) \u00a0and builds suspense on the way to unraveling\u00a0 the mystery of the GREEN sheep.<\/p>\n

Lucy Cousin\u2019s book, Maisy Big, Maisy Small,\u00a0<\/a>takes us on a journey of opposites.\u00a0 There is Maisy hot and Maisy cold, Maisy slow and Maisy fast, Maisy thin and\u00a0 Maisy thick\u2026 (you get the picture).\u00a0\u00a0Simple language and bright, bold colors make this concept book a perfect lap sit or read aloud\u00a0for infants.<\/p>\n
