We began our first Toddler\u00a0Storytime of\u00a0the summer\u00a0session with a\u00a0MOOO<\/em> and a CLUCK<\/em> as we read books about farm animals.\u00a0 Here are the stories, songs,\u00a0flannel rhymes,\u00a0activities & video we shared.<\/p>\n

Books We Shared<\/h4>\n

\"\"<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \"\"<\/a>\u00a0 \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Down on the farm there are many colorful and noisy animals to spy and we see most of them in Edward Gibb\u2019s picture\u00a0book, I Spy on the Farm<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>A peep hole with a glimpse into a farm animal along with a teeny, tiny clue\u00a0helps us guess which animal will appear on the next page!\u00a0This book is boldly illustrated with simple text and delights with the element of surprise.\u00a0 It makes a great read aloud or lap read and can easily be shortened to fit an infant\u2019s\u00a0attention span.<\/p>\n

In Mama Hen’s Big Day<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/a> by Jill Latter, we have a hen trying to find the PERFECT spot to lay her egg.\u00a0 First she finds a cave but nope!\u00a0 There’s a snake in there!\u00a0 Then there’s a beautiful meadow but noooo!\u00a0 There’s the neighbor’s cat ready to pounce!\u00a0 Mama Hen frantically keeps looking\u00a0until she finally lays her egg on the top of the tallest mountain.\u00a0 Of course she discovers that “the best place of all to lay her egg is wherever Mama is!”<\/p>\n

Little Chicken’s Big Day<\/span> <\/strong><\/em><\/a>by Katie and Jerry Davis is a great book to read to toddlers!\u00a0 It has elements of familiarity and suspense.\u00a0 We begin with Mama Chicken helping Little Chicken get up and get ready for the day…”Wash your face!\u00a0 Brush your teeth?\u00a0 Get dressed!”\u00a0 Of course Little Chicken hears Big Chicken clucking away until Big Chicken asks her to follow and stay close.\u00a0 Things are okay until a pesky butterfly distracts Little Chicken and she gets separated from mama.\u00a0 Not to worry, a happy reunion ensues\u00a0with a hug, a kiss, a bedtime story and an “I love you mama” from Little Chicken.<\/p>\n
