For our first Toddler Storytime of the spring session, we read books about eggs.<\/p>\n

Our first story,\u00a0Egg<\/em> by Kevin Henkes<\/a>, showed four eggs, one of which isn’t hatching, but it’s about to yield a big surprise!<\/p>\n

Our second book, Except If<\/em> by Jim Averbeck<\/a>, continued the theme of the unpredictable surprises of eggs, as well as exploring the many different kinds of creatures who hatch from them. <\/p>\n

Letter of the Day<\/h4>\n

To emphasize writing skills I have the toddlers practice drawing the letter of the day in the air, and on the flannelboard. Our letter of the day was “E.” We talked about things that start with E.<\/p>\n

Our film story,\u00a0based on the book Max’s Chocolate Chicken<\/em> by Rosemary Wells<\/a>, showed what happens when big sister Ruby teases Max that she will find all the Easter eggs and win the chocolate chicken in the Easter egg hunt.<\/p>\n

Songs and Rhymes We Shared Without Music<\/h4>\n

Eggs in a Nest<\/span><\/p>\n

I gave everyone a rhyme with a picture of a nest, and I cut slits in the picture for people to put their fingers. Then I encouraged the toddlers or their parents to say the rhyme with me and use their fingers to be the baby birds poking through their eggs.<\/p>\n
