We had the luck o\u2019 the Irish with us during our infant\u00a0storytime today.\u00a0 We read about all things green, told a big, green monster to “go away” and counted out\u00a0some shamrocks.\u00a0 It was all in a day\u2019s fun here at PPL!<\/p>\n

Books We Shared<\/h4>\n

\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Brenda Vaccaro Seeger\u2019s book,\u00a0Green<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, was the perfect pick for\u00a0a storytime about St. Patrick\u2019s Day!\u00a0 This is a beautiful book \u2013 the illustrations are lush and each page is a surprise,\u00a0highlighting various things in nature that are green<\/strong><\/span>.\u00a0 A bit long for infants\u00a0so I shortened it by a few pages.<\/p>\n

In keeping with the “GREEN<\/span><\/strong>” theme, we shared\u00a0Go Away Big Green Monster<\/em> <\/span><\/strong><\/a>by Ed Emberley.\u00a0But, it wasn’t the book exactly…it was a\u00a0“puppet” version of the story, making it perfect for use with infants.\u00a0 The kids were mesmerized as I placed\u00a0two round\u00a0eyes,\u00a0two pointy ears, a\u00a0long, greenish-blue nose,\u00a0purple\u00a0hair and a\u00a0red mouth with sharp white teeth onto the puppet\u00a0monster’s green face.\u00a0 Of course, we had the power to make the monster GO AWAY completely as we pulled the eyes, ears, nose, mouth and hair off AND\u00a0turned the puppet face around to reveal an empty black background!\u00a0 No more features and no more GREEN<\/span><\/strong>!\u00a0 There were a few laughs and audible gasps from the parents…the children were just shocked (at least it appeared that way).<\/p>\n

\nwent up the water spout.\u00a0\u00a0 (\u201cwalk\u201d your fingers up thumb to forefinger, alternating.)<\/em>
\nDown came the rain and (wiggle fingers and bring then downward)<\/em>
\nWashed the spider out. (make baseball \u201csafe\u201d motion)<\/em>
\nOut came the sun and (hands above head in a circle)<\/em>
\nand dried up all the rain. (hands out at side of body)<\/em>
