We had fun with colors\u00a0& counting<\/em> during our preschool Storytime!\u00a0 Here are\u00a0the books, flannel story, songs & activities we shared about our theme:<\/p>\n

Press Here<\/span><\/a> by \u00a0Herve Tullet\u00a0involves counting, color identification and sorting.\u00a0 It is also offers a preschool friendly\u00a0introduction into spatial skills.\u00a0 We had fun shaking the book, pressing the dots, turning the book upside down and even blowing onto\u00a0the pages to enlarge\u00a0the dots!\u00a0 You get the picture!\u00a0\u00a0Herve Tullet is known for his innovative concept\u00a0books about art<\/span>, design<\/span>\u00a0& color mixing <\/span>AND, most importantly his\u00a0books are interactive,\u00a0educational and\u00a0FUN<\/span>!\u00a0\u00a0Click onto his name for a list of his\u00a0other\u00a0books: \u00a0Herve Tullet<\/span><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n

In Audrey & Bruce Wood’s The Deep Blue Sea<\/span><\/a>, we start with the beautiful blue sea, then we see a red rock jutting out from the deep blue sea, then a green tree growing up from the red rock…as you can SEE <\/span><\/strong>this book is cumulative and it eventually ends with\u00a0a “rainbow” surprise.\u00a0 Rich in color saturation\u00a0with clean lines and succinct corresponding text – this\u00a0is a\u00a0calming book that teaches children color identification,\u00a0math and story building concepts.<\/p>\n

Flannel Board Story We Shared<\/h4>\n

Seven Blind Mice<\/strong><\/p>\n

This flannel board story is based on the picture book by Ed Young – Seven Blind Mice<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

The story begins with seven blind mice (each a different color) who use their sense of touch to “feel” their way around the world.\u00a0 They decide to run to the pond near their home to play – it’s a pond\u00a0they\u00a0always frequent but this time\u00a0they “feel” a large SOMETHING right in the middle of the pond.\u00a0 They can’t figure out what it is so they all run back home a bit scared.\u00a0 But curiosity eventually gets the best of them as each mouse picks a day of the week to go back to the pond to try and figure out what that big SOMETHING is!<\/p>\n

As you can see from the progression of images – the BIG THING IS AN ELEPHANT.\u00a0 But, until all of the pieces of the flannel puzzle appear, it remains a\u00a0mystery.<\/p>\n

Great for teaching counting, colors, story anticipation and linking small pieces to a greater whole.\u00a0 The story also introduces the concept of blindness and how it relates to utilizing the other senses (sense of touch).\u00a0 The children were mesmerized as each mouse took her\/his turn.\u00a0 The days of the week are also mentioned since each mouse ventures out on a different day of the\u00a0week.<\/p>\n
