For our January 31 storytime, with\u00a0February right around the corner, we shared stories about groundhogs and shadows in honor of February 2nd, aka Groundhog Day!<\/p>\n

Books We Shared
\n<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/a><\/h4>\n

Our first story was Shadows<\/span> by April Pulley Sayre, illustrated by Harvey Stevenson<\/a>. \u00a0We explored many different types of shadows here and there, big and small, and prancing running shadows. \u00a0This one is fun to add different motions on as you describe hopping, kicking and more with the shadows.<\/p>\n

We examined the animal side of Groundhog Day with our second book A Greyhound, A Groundhog<\/span> by Emily Jenkins, illustrated by Chris Appelhans<\/a>. \u00a0What happens when a grey, round dog discovers a brown round hog? \u00a0A lot of fun and wordplay for the animals and readers both!<\/p>\n

Five little groundhogs on Groundhog Day,

\nThe fourth one said, \u201cIs that a shadow I see?\u201d

\nWhen the groundhogs popped their heads out,
\nNo shadows did they see.
\n\u201cSpring is finally here!\u201d they shouted.
\n\u201cAnd we\u2019re free, free, free!\u201d<\/p>\n

As I put the groundhogs up on the board,\u00a0caregivers could wiggle their little one’s fingers or toes.<\/p>\n
