{"id":5957,"date":"2016-08-15T16:15:16","date_gmt":"2016-08-15T23:15:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/?p=5957"},"modified":"2016-12-06T19:37:54","modified_gmt":"2016-12-07T03:37:54","slug":"family-storytime-owls-such-august-6-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/2016\/family-storytime-owls-such-august-6-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Family Storytime &#8211; Owls &amp; Such &#8211; Aug. 6"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5960 alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2016\/08\/hoot-owl-300x290.jpg\" alt=\"hoot owl\" width=\"300\" height=\"290\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2016\/08\/hoot-owl-300x290.jpg 300w, http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2016\/08\/hoot-owl.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Our Family Storytime started with a\u00a0 hoot and a holler!\u00a0 Well, maybe not a holler but a hoot!\u00a0 Sorry, couldn&#8217;t resist the &#8220;owl&#8221; humor.\u00a0 We read books about some very eccentric owls.\u00a0 We also watched as a few bits of paper (blown around by the wind)\u00a0were transformed into various creatures.\u00a0 Here are a few\u00a0of the stories &amp; activities we shared:<\/p>\n<p>We began with Sean Taylor&#8217;s <em><strong>Hoot Owl, Master of Disguise<\/strong>.\u00a0 A <\/em>hungry owl is in search of a meal but\u00a0he needs to disguise himself to catch a tasty morsel.\u00a0 I mean, his prey would run if they saw an owl approaching&#8230;right?\u00a0 So Hoot Owl spies a rabbit&#8230;what would tempt a rabbit to come a little closer?\u00a0 Did you guess it?\u00a0 A carrot!\u00a0 So Hoot Owl dresses up as a\u00a0carrot&#8230;he waits&#8230;but, ahhhh&#8230;&#8221;It doesn&#8217;t work.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0 (The rabbit isn&#8217;t fooled).\u00a0 But Hoot Owl doesn&#8217;t give up &#8211; after all, he is a master of disguise, and\u00a0 so the story progresses with attempts at catching a lamb. a pigeon and finally a &#8220;pizza.&#8221;\u00a0 Clever, rhyming text, colorful illustrations and the owl&#8217;s hilarious disguises make this a &#8220;witty&#8221; read for the preschool set.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5959 alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2016\/08\/GOODNIGHTOWL-242x300.jpg\" alt=\"GOODNIGHTOWL\" width=\"242\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2016\/08\/GOODNIGHTOWL-242x300.jpg 242w, http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2016\/08\/GOODNIGHTOWL.jpg 318w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 242px) 100vw, 242px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Good Night Owl<\/em> <\/strong>by Greg Pizzoli also has a bit of &#8220;witty&#8221; humor.\u00a0 Almost anyone (young to old) can relate to\u00a0 the\u00a0&#8220;Did you hear that?\u00a0&#8221; kind of sound that keeps you from falling asleep.\u00a0\u00a0Well the owl in this story gets progressively more paranoid and aggressive about\u00a0finding\u00a0this &#8220;noise&#8221; as the evening\u00a0goes on.\u00a0 He tears down the house &#8211; literally! A funny story that builds as the owl becomes more and more frantic until he finds the teeny, tiny mouse behind the squeaks.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>Flannel Board Story:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3113 alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/04\/windblown-263x300.jpg\" alt=\"windblown\" width=\"263\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/04\/windblown-263x300.jpg 263w, http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/04\/windblown.jpg 336w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 263px) 100vw, 263px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>WINDBLOWN<\/strong> by Edouard Manceau is all about the paper&#8230;scraps of paper that is.\u00a0 We start with colorful bits of paper, but who do they belong to?\u00a0 That is the essential question of the story as various animals are created with these tiny\u00a0bits.\u00a0 The\u00a0simple shapes form a chicken, a fish, a bird, a snail and a frog.\u00a0 The wind, however, takes over again as it blows all of the scraps of paper into a heap once more.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3117 alignnone\"
