I did more books than usual.  But even with the distraction of the eggs and more than the usual amount of reading, the group did very well!  And I just had to share those books.  Some themes suggest so many good books I just can&#8217;t pick only three!<\/p>\n<p>We sang &#8220;Clap Your Hands&#8221; and then I did a puppet show narrating the classic book <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/search\/C__Sbig%20hungry%20bear%20wood__Orightresult__U?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">The Little Mouse, The Red, Ripe Strawberry and the Big, Hungry Bear<\/a> by Don and Audrey Wood.  I used a puppet for the mouse and the kids helped me trick the mouse and convince him that there really is a big, hungry bear going <em>tromp, tromp, tromp<\/em> on big, hungry feet.   <\/p>\n<p>When I previously performed this puppet show for a toddler group I recorded it. It turns out peas are picky eaters too, only they aren&#8217;t told to &#8220;eat all their <em>vegetables<\/em>&#8220;!  <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1302968__Slittle%20pea__Orightresult__X7?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com\/images\/I\/41Q9WQC99HL.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><\/a>  <\/p>\n<p>We sang a song called &#8220;Pea Soup&#8221; which I learned from Miss Jennifer&#8217;s storytimes blog:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>(hold hand up with all five fingers extended)<br \/>\n1 little pea jumped into the pot (fold one finger down)<br \/>\nAnd waited for the soup to get hot.<br \/>\n2 little peas jumped into the pot (fold one finger down)<br \/>\nAnd waited for the soup to get hot.<br \/>\n3 little peas jumped into the pot (fold one finger down)<br \/>\nAnd waited for the soup to get hot.<br \/>\n4 little peas jumped into the pot (fold one finger down)<br \/>\nAnd waited for the soup to get hot.<br \/>\n5 little peas jumped into the pot (fold one finger down)<br \/>\nAnd waited for the soup to get hot.<br \/>\nFinally the soup got so very hot<br \/>\nAll the little peas jumped out of the pot. Bacon is becoming the &#8220;toast of the town,&#8221; and as a result is starting to get very <em>full of himself<\/em>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1564208__Severyone%20loves%20bacon__Orightresult__U__X7?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com\/images\/I\/51fFARu7CfL._SX342_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg\" width=\"344\" height=\"499\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I gave the kids some pieces of felt cut in all different shapes and colors to represent diced veggies and cheese.  Then we told a story about a boy whose dad was trying to introduce him to new veggies and got him to eat them in the form of the pizza.  The kids helped make the pizza.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2016\/07\/picky-pete.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2016\/07\/picky-pete-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"picky pete\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5913\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2016\/07\/picky-pete-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2016\/07\/picky-pete-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2016\/07\/picky-pete-175x131.jpg 175w, http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2016\/07\/picky-pete-667x500.jpg 667w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I got the idea from a bilingual flannelboard story by a librarian named Katie at her blog <a href=\"http:\/\/bilingualchildrensprogramming.blogspot.com\/2013\/07\/flannel-friday-giveaway-picky-paul.html\" target=\"_blank\">Es divertido hablar dos idiomas<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Our 3rd book was <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1594499__Scrunch__Orightresult__U__X7?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">Crunch<\/a> by Carolina Rabei. (flex arm) <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I had fun adding strange ingredients like bologna and Swiss cheese and orange juice!<\/p>\n<p>We danced and shook our shaker eggs to a wonderful, Rumba-like rendition of &#8220;Apples and Bananas&#8221; by Ladybug Music (Patricia Maertens) from the album <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1602292__Sladybug%20apples%20bananas%20summer__Orightresult__U__X1?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">Summer Songs vol. 1<\/a>.  If the shaker eggs distracted kids here and there during storytime, it was worth it for the great music we made during that song!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1602292__Sladybug%20apples%20bananas%20summer__Orightresult__U__X1?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/a5.mzstatic.com\/eu\/r30\/Music\/v4\/ee\/74\/5c\/ee745cdb-88ef-505f-37c7-97ab34cf05f9\/cover170x170.jpeg\" width=\"170\" height=\"170\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We watched a short film based on the book <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1189096__Spetes%20a%20pizza__P0%2C3__Orightresult__U__X7?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">Pete&#8217;s a Pizza<\/a> by William Stieg.  The story is really cute, about a dad who cheers his son up by making him into a pizza&#8211;rolling him, kneading him, sprinkling him with &#8220;cheese,&#8221; and tickling him.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1397289__Spetes%20a%20pizza__Orightresult__U__X7?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/store.scholastic.com\/content\/stores\/media\/products\/51\/9780545172851_default_pdp.gif\" width=\"220\" height=\"340\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1189096__Spetes%20a%20pizza__P0%2C3__Orightresult__U__X7?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com\/images\/I\/51spd7pa12L._SX258_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg\" width=\"260\" height=\"305\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We read a FOURTH book (like I said, this Food storytime made me kinda greedy!) which I think was enjoyed by everyone: <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1277883__Syummy%20yucky__Orightresult__U__X7?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">Yummy Yucky<\/a> by Leslie Patricelli.  I see the library copy is currently missing which is a shame&#8211;it&#8217;s one of my favorites.  A real hoot!  It&#8217;s what I call a board book for the whole family&#8211;not just for babies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1277883__Syummy%20yucky__Orightresult__U__X7?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com\/images\/I\/51D5GGJ0VRL._SX258_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg\" width=\"260\" height=\"266\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Want to do some more food themed songs at home?  Try Little Miss Muffet and Little Jack Horner!
