Our Infant Storytime was all about butterflies today!\u00a0 We read a special slide-and-seek book by Emma Parrish which was a big hit.\u00a0 Each page asks, “Where is Flutterby Butterfly?”\u00a0 This leads us on a search for our special butterfly as we move through a bird’s nest, flowers, a beehive, a spider’s web and more.\u00a0 It is only on the very last page that we find our butterfly.\u00a0 Colorful, interactive and suspenseful (from a baby’s perspective, of course), this board book is a good choice for an infant or toddler storytime.<\/p>\n

In place of a second book, I told the story of the Surprise Butterfly in\u00a0a Box<\/strong> using a caterpillar finger puppet, a butterfly finger puppet and a box.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The fuzzy little caterpillar<\/p>\n

Crawled up to look at me!<\/p>\n

He wiggled and I giggled.<\/p>\n

Friends we soon would be,<\/p>\n

So I put him in a box, I did!<\/p>\n

Don’t you crawl away, I said.<\/p>\n

But the next time I opened the lid,<\/p>\n

Out flew a butterfly instead!<\/p>\n

 <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

We also made some butterflies appear with a special rhyme!<\/p>\n

Five Little Caterpillars…<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Five little caterpillars spinning their cocoons (roll hands)<\/p>\n

Hoping that spring would be here soon (cross fingers)<\/p>\n

With a little bit of magic (flutter fingers)<\/p>\n

And some warm sunshine (circle arms overhead)<\/p>\n

Clap, clap, clap for a butterfly (clap hands three times and pull a flannel butterfly out of a basket)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
