{"id":4706,"date":"2015-12-01T01:11:33","date_gmt":"2015-12-01T01:11:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/?p=4706"},"modified":"2015-12-23T01:12:39","modified_gmt":"2015-12-23T01:12:39","slug":"toddler-storytime-rain-and-puddles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/2015\/toddler-storytime-rain-and-puddles\/","title":{"rendered":"Toddler Storytime: Rain and Puddles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As cities across California gear up for &#8220;El Ni\u00f1o,&#8221; I thought our little ni\u00f1os might enjoy some fun books and songs about rain, puddles, and rainbows. \u00a0We started storytime with our usual opening song, then <a href=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/2015\/toddler-storytime-apples\/\" target=\"_blank\">Open Shut Them<\/a>, and took scarves to sing <a href=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/2015\/infant-storytime-dressing-up\/\" target=\"_blank\">One Bright Scarf<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/2015\/infant-storytime-dressing-up\/\" target=\"_blank\">Peekaboo<\/a>. \u00a0Then we read a board book called <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1535294__Swater%20hutton__Orightresult__X2?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">Water <\/a>by John Hutton and illustrated by Andrea King.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1535294__Swater%20hutton__Orightresult__X2?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/ecx.images-amazon.com\/images\/I\/41YkGPiSgIL._SY498_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"317\" height=\"317\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We sang <a href=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/2015\/infant-storytime-dressing-up\/\" target=\"_blank\">Oh My Hat Goes On My Head<\/a> and did a flannelboard activity about counting out the number of boots each animal would need, depending on how many feet they have.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We read a third book today, which I had on hand and just thought was too cute not to share&#8211;it&#8217;s about ponds and includes a finger-puppet fish. \u00a0It&#8217;s called <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1565200__Sin%20my%20pond__Orightresult__U__X6?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">In My Pond<\/a> by Sara Gillingham and Lorena Siminovich.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1565200__Sin%20my%20pond__Orightresult__U__X6?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.lorenasiminovich.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/pond_cvr.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"331\" height=\"317\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We did a flannelboard activity about counting up to and down from ten, singing to the tune of &#8220;Ten Little Indians&#8221;:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>One little two little three little raindrops<\/p>\n<p>Four little five little six little raindrops<\/p>\n<p>Seven little eight little nine little raindrops<\/p>\n<p>Ten little raindrops falling down!<\/p>\n<p>Now the sun is out and there are\u2026<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Nine little eight little seven little raindrops<\/p>\n<p>Six little five little four little raindrops<\/p>\n<p>Three little two little one little raindrop<\/p>\n<p>Now there\u2019s just a rainbow!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We read\u00a0another short board book called <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1511870__Srain%20jayne%20church__Orightresult__U__X2?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">Rain, Rain Go Away<\/a> by Caroline Jayne Church, an adaptation of the nursery rhyme.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1511870__Srain%20jayne%20church__Orightresult__U__X2?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/images.shopko.com\/get\/w\/475\/h\/475\/108549_0000.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"280\" height=\"280\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We did a fingerplay about five little raindrops:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Five Little Raindrops<\/strong><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>Five little raindrops (hold up five fingers)<br \/>\nDancing on the walk (dance hand up and down)<br \/>\nPitter patter, pitter patter, that\u2019s the way they talk. (pat legs)<br \/>\nOut comes the yellow sun, shining in the sky (raise arms up like the sun)<br \/>\nAnd away goes one raindrop (hold up one finger)<br \/>\nBye, bye, bye!
