So today our preschool\/family storytime was all about turkeys!<\/p>\n<p>Everybody got a feather, and we sang a simple song about the colors:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Turkey wore his red feather, red feather, red feather<\/p>\n<p>Turkey wore his red feather all day long<\/p>\n<p>Turkey wore his orange feather&#8230; (etc)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We read <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1309239__Sover%20the%20river%20anderson__Orightresult__U__X2?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">Over the River<\/a> by Derek Anderson, an adaptation of the old Thanksgiving song about going to Grandma&#8217;s house for dinner.\u00a0 In this illustrated version, we see a family of turkeys facing great dangers to make it to their grandparents&#8217; house!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1309239__Sover%20the%20river%20anderson__Orightresult__U__X2?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/ecx.images-amazon.com\/images\/I\/61ldfknDN2L._SY498_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"340\" height=\"340\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We did a flannelboard activity about identifying which things don&#8217;t belong, kind of like the old Sesame Street song:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Three of these things belong together<\/p>\n<p>Three of these things are kind of the same<\/p>\n<p>But one of these things just doesn&#8217;t belong here<\/p>\n<p>Now it&#8217;s time to play our game.\u00a0 It&#8217;s time to play our game!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com\/originals\/09\/a8\/ee\/09a8eed31ed11ee0b9f4f3d502ee98cf.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"408\" height=\"306\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com\/originals\/44\/a1\/d1\/44a1d17f7c58309e5615dbf377fb223c.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"408\" height=\"306\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then we segued into singing Old MacDonald with felt piece cues.\u00a0 After that, we read another book called <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1407934__Sim%20a%20turkey__Orightresult__U__X6?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">I&#8217;m a Turkey<\/a> by Jim Arnosky.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a book about the lives of turkeys in the wild, with a fun bluegrass kind of rhythm to the words.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1407934__Sim%20a%20turkey__Orightresult__U__X6?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jimarnosky.com\/images\/iamaturkey.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"338\" height=\"230\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We sang Gobble Pokey:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Put your right wing in, put your right wing out<\/p>\n<p>Put your right wing in, and you shake it all about<\/p>\n<p>You do the Gobble Pokey and you turn yourself around<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s what it&#8217;s all about!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We read <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1410479__Sfive%20silly%20turkeys__Orightresult__X6?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">Five Silly Turkeys<\/a> by Salina Yoon and used the felt board to illustrate the counting:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1410479__Sfive%20silly%20turkeys__Orightresult__X6?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.salinayoon.com\/book_images\/five_turkeys_cover.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"325\" height=\"223\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com\/originals\/cc\/f2\/20\/ccf2201ac642f8f5a649a55fb6dd1bd6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"419\" height=\"314\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We sang the song &#8220;Baa Baa Black Sheep&#8221;:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Baa baa black sheep, have you any wool?<\/p>\n<p>Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full<\/p>\n<p>One for the master and one for the dame<\/p>\n<p>One for the little boy who lives down the lane<\/p>\n<p>Baa baa black sheep, have you any wool?<\/p>\n<p>Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Then we listened to Raffi&#8217;s version which includes the many contributions of other animals for our food and clothing!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com\/originals\/41\/1f\/dd\/411fdd0bf53604aa5db34e6769fe90ad.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"411\" height=\"308\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Baa baa black sheep, have you any wool?<\/p>\n<p>Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full<\/p>\n<p>One for your sweater and one for your rug<\/p>\n<p>One for your blanket to keep you warm and snug<\/p>\n<p>Cluck cluck red hen, have you any eggs?<\/p>\n<p>Yes sir, yes sir as many as your legs!<\/p>\n<p>One for your breakfast and one for your lunch<\/p>\n<p>Come back tomorrow, I&#8217;ll have another bunch<\/p>\n<p>Moo moo brown cow, have you milk for me?<\/p>\n<p>Yes sir, yes sir, as tasty as can be<\/p>\n<p>Churn it into butter and make it into cheese<\/p>\n<p>Freeze it into ice cream or drink it if you please<\/p>\n<p>Buzz buzz, busy bee, is your honey sweet?<\/p>\n<p>Yes sir, yes sir, sweet enough to eat<\/p>\n<p>Honey on your muffin and honey on your cake<\/p>\n<p>Honey by the spoonful as much as I can make<\/p>\n<p>Baa baa black sheep, have you any wool?<\/p>\n<p>Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We sang &#8220;Row Row Row Your Boat&#8221; and danced and wiggled to the song. \u00a0Then we did a fingerplay called Mr. Turkey and Mr. Duck, to the tune of &#8220;Yankee Doodle&#8221;:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Mr. Turkey went out one day in bright sunshiney weather<\/p>\n<p>Met Mr. Duck along the way and they stopped to talk together<\/p>\n<p>They said:<\/p>\n<p>Gobble gobble gobble, quack quack quack<\/p>\n<p>Gobble gobble gobble, quack quack quack<\/p>\n<p>Gobble gobble gobble, quack quack quack<\/p>\n<p>And then they went away<\/p>\n<p>(But Mr. Duck came back and said Quaaaaaaaaaack!)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We watched a video that is an\u00a0animated version of the award-winning book <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1204068__SJoseph%20Had%20a%20Little%20Overcoat__P0%2C1__Orightresult__U__X6?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">Joseph Had a Little Overcoat<\/a> by Simms Taback.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1204068__SJoseph%20Had%20a%20Little%20Overcoat__P0%2C1__Orightresult__U__X6?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/childrensbookalmanac.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Joseph-Had-a-Little-Overcoat.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"320\" \/><\/a>The video is well done and includes traditional Yiddish songs and funny Yiddish jokes, as well as an additional animated song which we didn&#8217;t show. \u00a0You can view it on the DVD <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1329226__Sstrega%20nona%20dvd__P0%2C1__Orightresult__U__X1?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">Strega Nona and More Caldecott-Award-Winning Folk Tales<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1329226__Sstrega%20nona%20dvd__P0%2C1__Orightresult__U__X1?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/ecx.images-amazon.com\/images\/I\/5152SGATD0L._SY445_.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"315\" height=\"445\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I picked this story because it actually features a turkey prominently, as well as many other farm animals&#8230;
