On\u00a0Tuesday our Toddler\u00a0Storytime was all about hats! \u00a0We gave each child a silly animal hat (though some kids\u00a0may not like hats and in that case their caregivers donned the hats instead). \u00a0We sang our opening song, then sang Open Shut Them, Peekaboo<\/a>\u00a0and then read the book Whose Hat Is That<\/a>? by\u00a0Anita Bijsterbosch, translated from the Dutch.<\/p>\n

We sang Oh My Hat Goes On My Head <\/a>and Can You When You Grow Up<\/a>? \u00a0I deliberately chose my themes to have some songs that would repeat for two weeks or so, because the repetition helps everybody learn the songs and the familiarity that comes from hearing the songs several times is good for the toddlers.<\/p>\n

We did a flannel story about looking for a meerkat<\/a> hiding behind one of several hats:<\/p>\n

We read another book called I Love My Hat<\/a> by Douglas Florian. \u00a0It’s really cute and has good repetition, but it was a bit long actually. \u00a0It might not have been my best choice ever because it\u00a0required much abridging! \u00a0Ah well.<\/p>\n

We also did a colors song about hats which I learned from Miss Jennifer<\/a>\u00a0(I just used hats on my head instead of felt pieces).<\/p>\n

We also did a silly hat song using our animal hats, and it goes like this:<\/p>\n

On my head, I wear a hat<\/p>\n

It is such a silly hat<\/p>\n

That my head will wiggle, waggle to and fro<\/p>\n

Where else can my silly hat go?<\/p>\n

On my knee…<\/p>\n

On my foot…<\/p>\n

On my hand…<\/p>\n

On my elbow…<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

We watched a clip from Sesame Street for our video. \u00a0It was a clip from the DVD Elmo’s Magic Numbers<\/a>, from the episode Hat Day, in which Elmo and Zoe are in a contest to see who can wear the most hats.<\/p>\n
