ACTION RHYME:<\/strong>\u00a0 Open Shut Them<\/p>\n FIRST BOOK <\/strong><\/p>\n Little Boo<\/em> by Steven Wunderly<\/p>\n Little Boo wants more than anything in the whole wide world to be SCARY.\u00a0 When her story begins she is nothing more than a tiny seed and nobody is afraid of her.\u00a0 \u00a0The wind keeps telling\u00a0 her to be patient, that her time will come, but you see her struggle as she goes from a seed to a growing vine, to a plant and finally to a beautiful, round pumpkin.\u00a0 She even yells BOO to try and\u00a0scare the hands that pick her up out of the ground, but it isn’t until those hands carve her into a spooky Jack-0-Lantern that she is able to scare EVERYBODY with her loud BOOS.\u00a0 A great story for Halloween and a wonderful lesson about growing up and being patient.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n FLANNEL RHYME<\/strong><\/p>\n Five Little Pumpkins<\/em><\/p>\n Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate.<\/p>\n The first one said, \u201cOh, my it\u2019s getting late!\u201d<\/p>\n The second one said, \u201cThere are witches in the air.\u201d<\/p>\n The third one said, \u201cBut we don\u2019t care.\u201d<\/p>\n The fourth one said, \u201cLet\u2019s run and run and run!\u201d<\/p>\n The fifth one said, \u201cI\u2019m ready for some fun!\u201d<\/p>\n Ooooooooo went the wind and OUT (clap) went the lights<\/p>\n And the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight. (roll hands)<\/p>\n SECOND BOOK<\/strong><\/p>\n It’s Halloween Night!<\/em> by Jennifer O’Connell<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n THIRD BOOK<\/strong><\/p>\n Go Away Big Green Monster<\/em>\u00a0 by Ed Emberley<\/p>\n We’re not scared of you BIG GREEN MONSTER!\u00a0 This book is always a hit\u00a0– the visuals are stunning and the strategic cutouts\u00a0reveal the monster with each turn of the page…of course, when we want the monster to go away, we can take apart his face bit by bit until (at the very end) there is nothing left but a blank page.\u00a0 A great Halloween monster read that appeals to a broad age range.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n CHOCOLATE CHIP GHOST<\/strong> w\/ props (CREDIT: SunflowerStorytime.com)<\/em><\/p>\n Participation: Ask your audience to name white foods\u00a0(like cauliflower, mashed potatoes, vanilla yogurt, and marshmallows.)<\/em><\/p>\n But when Mama Ghost goes out to\u00a0run errands, the hungry little ghosts eat strawberries, broccoli, blueberries, grapes, and drink some lemonade. \u00a0The last little ghost eats a whole tub of chocolate chip ice cream (because it\u2019s mostly<\/em> white\u2026obviously.) \u00a0When Mama Ghost gets home, she finds that all of her little ghosts are colorful!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n [When the first ghost eats strawberries, FLIP her over, red-side facing the audience.
