This past Tuesday we told stories about autumn leaves and met some animals who like to eat leaves.<\/p>\n

After our opening song and the song Open Shut Them<\/a>, we read\u00a0the book Mouse’s First Fall<\/a> by Lauren Thompson. \u00a0It’s a simple story about a mouse who learns how fun it is to jump in piles of leaves.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I got out my I Spy box and introduced the toddlers\u00a0to a turtle and a ladybug who like to nibble on leaves. \u00a0Toddlers came up and fed the animals a leaf:<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

And\u00a0we did a flannelboard story about a little squirrel who is hiding behind a leaf. \u00a0First, all you can see are leaves of different colors:<\/p>\n

\"little<\/a><\/p>\n

Then we flip the leaves\u00a0over one by one, exposing a surprise!<\/p>\n

\"little<\/a><\/p>\n

We a song called “The Leaves Are Falling Down Today” to the tune of “The Ants Go Marching”:<\/p>\n

The leaves are falling down today, hurrah! \u00a0Hurrah!<\/p>\n

The leaves are falling down today, hurrah! \u00a0Hurrah!<\/p>\n

The leaves are falling to the ground<\/p>\n

Where I can jump and play around<\/p>\n

Oh the leaves are falling down… to the ground… where I can…<\/p>\n

STOMP! STOMP! STOMP! STOMP! STOMP!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Then we did a fingerplay called “Little Leaves” to the tune of London Bridge is Falling Down:<\/p>\n

Little leaves are falling down, falling down, falling down<\/p>\n

Whirling, twirling round and round, down, down, down!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

We read a book called That Pup! <\/a>by Lindsay Barrett George. \u00a0I love the illustrations of the happy puppy who has discovered a wonderful new game she calls “Find the Acorn”–a game that the poor little squirrel chasing after her does not like one bit! \u00a0(Tip: read it with your toddlers\u00a0and see if they\u00a0can find the squirrel hiding on each spread.)<\/p>\n

We sang Great Big Apple Tree<\/a>,\u00a0and did\u00a0some songs with our song cube. \u00a0We also watched a cute video about Fall. \u00a0It’s from the DVD Peppa Pig Bubbles<\/a>, and the episode is called “Windy Autumn Day.” \u00a0I love the show Peppa Pig, especially the way her parents sometimes get into funny scrapes but they keep a sense of humor about it. \u00a0You can check it and all of these books out from the library by clicking on the pictures:<\/p>\n

Remember to bring your toddlers\u00a0in costume for next week’s storytime! \u00a0Since it’s the closest one to Halloween it’s kind of a tradition here to bring the kids\u00a0all dressed up–and it gives you a day to try out the adorable new costume you just bought!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
