{"id":4406,"date":"2015-10-13T19:58:55","date_gmt":"2015-10-13T19:58:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/?p=4406"},"modified":"2015-10-13T19:58:55","modified_gmt":"2015-10-13T19:58:55","slug":"toddler-storytime-apples","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/2015\/toddler-storytime-apples\/","title":{"rendered":"Toddler Storytime: Apples"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today began our Fall 2015 Session of Toddler Storytime!\u00a0 We read stories and sang songs about apples, a nice fall season fruit.\u00a0 Toddlers were invited to take an apple to hold if they wanted to and feed it to a bear puppet. \u00a0Then at the end of storytime we brought all our apples up to the felt board:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/10\/apple-pieces.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4408\" src=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/10\/apple-pieces-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"apple pieces\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/10\/apple-pieces-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/10\/apple-pieces.jpg 389w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We start every storytime with an opening song, &#8220;Clap Everybody and Say Hello,&#8221; and then we sing a fingerplay called\u00a0&#8220;Open Shut Them&#8221;:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Open, shut them (flex and close fingers)<\/p>\n<p>Open, shut them<\/p>\n<p>Give a little clap, clap, clap<\/p>\n<p>Open, shut them<\/p>\n<p>Open, shut them<\/p>\n<p>Place them on your lap, lap, lap<\/p>\n<p>Creep them, crawl them (dance fingers slowly up to your chin)<\/p>\n<p>Creep them, crawl them<\/p>\n<p>Right up to your chin, chin, chin<\/p>\n<p>Open up your little mouth, but&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>DO NOT LET THEM IN! (hide hands behind back)<\/p>\n<p>Where is Thumbkin?<\/p>\n<p>Here I am! (bring out one hand with thumb up)<\/p>\n<p>Here I am! (bring out other hand with thumb up)<\/p>\n<p>How are you today, sir? (make thumbs wiggle and &#8220;talk&#8221; to each other)<\/p>\n<p>Very well, and thank you!<\/p>\n<p>Run away! (hide one hand again)<\/p>\n<p>Run away! (hide the other)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Then we read the book <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1342777__Sorange%20pear__Orightresult__U__X6?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">Orange Pear Apple Bear<\/a> by Emily Gravett.\u00a0 This book has a lot of repetition, using the same words over and over.\u00a0 But it stays surprising by always\u00a0giving us\u00a0a slight change in the order and a slight twist on the meaning:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1342777__Sorange%20pear__Orightresult__U__X6?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/makingmecranky.com\/images\/05_20_09_Photos\/books1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"384\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We sang &#8220;Mister Sun&#8221;:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Oh Mister Sun, Sun,<\/p>\n<p>Mister Golden Sun,<\/p>\n<p>Won&#8217;t you please shine down on me?<\/p>\n<p>Oh Mister Sun, Sun,<\/p>\n<p>Mister Golden Sun,<\/p>\n<p>Hiding behind a tree,<\/p>\n<p>These little children are asking you<\/p>\n<p>To please come out so we can play with you<\/p>\n<p>So Mister Sun, Sun,<\/p>\n<p>Mister Golden Sun,<\/p>\n<p>Oh won&#8217;t you please shine down on me?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We watched a <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1388771__Sspringtime%20for%20max%20and%20ruby__Orightresult__U__X4?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">video<\/a> called &#8220;Max&#8217;s Apple,&#8221;
