(bring baby&#8217;s arms down)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We did a traditional\u00a0tickle song:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Way up high in the apple tree (lift baby)<\/p>\n<p>Two little apples smiled at me<\/p>\n<p>I shook that tree as hard as I could (shake gently or tickle baby)<\/p>\n<p>Mmm, Mmm, Mmm, those apples were good!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Then we sang about Five\u00a0Red Apples and counted down from five to zero:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/10\/five-red-apples-felt-board.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4410\" src=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/10\/five-red-apples-felt-board-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"five red apples felt board\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/10\/five-red-apples-felt-board-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/10\/files\/sites\/10\/2015\/10\/five-red-apples-felt-board.jpg 519w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Five red apples hanging from the tree<\/p>\n<p>Big and round and so shiny<\/p>\n<p>Along came a worm with a hungry tummy<\/p>\n<p>And he ate one apple right off the tree!<\/p>\n<p>Four red apples&#8230;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We sang a song lifting our babies up and down in the air, to the tune of &#8220;Here We Go Looby-Loo&#8221;:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Here we go up, up, up<\/p>\n<p>Here we go down, down, down<\/p>\n<p>Here we go up, up, up<\/p>\n<p>Here we go down, down, down<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Babies love the change in altitude \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>We sang a bouncing song, &#8220;Bumpin&#8217; Up and Down in my Little Red Wagon&#8221;:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Bumpin&#8217; up and down in my little red wagon<\/p>\n<p>Bumpin&#8217; up and down in my little red wagon<\/p>\n<p>Bumpin&#8217; up and down in my little red wagon<\/p>\n<p>Won&#8217;t you be my darling?<\/p>\n<p>One wheel&#8217;s off and the axle&#8217;s broken<\/p>\n<p>One wheel&#8217;s off and the axle&#8217;s broken<\/p>\n<p>One wheel&#8217;s off and the axle&#8217;s broken<\/p>\n<p>Won&#8217;t you be my darling?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Then we read the book <a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1342777__Sorange%20pear__Orightresult__U__X6?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\">Orange Pear Apple Bear<\/a> by Emily Gravett.\u00a0 This book has a lot of repetition, using the same words over and over.\u00a0 But it stays surprising by always\u00a0giving us\u00a0a slight change in the order and a slight twist on the meaning:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pgpl-mt.iii.com\/iii\/encore_pasadena\/record\/C__Rb1342777__Sorange%20pear__Orightresult__U__X6?lang=eng&amp;suite=pasadena\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/makingmecranky.com\/images\/05_20_09_Photos\/books1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"384\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We bounced to the song &#8220;Ladies Ride,&#8221; increasing our tempo with each verse:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This is the way the ladies ride, trit trot, trit trot<\/p>\n<p>This is the way the ladies ride early in the morning<\/p>\n<p>This is the way the gentlemen ride, clip clop, clip clop<\/p>\n<p>This is the way the gentlemen ride early in the morning<\/p>\n<p>This is the way the farmers ride, clippity cloppity, clippity cloppity<\/p>\n<p>This is the way the farmers ride early in the morning<\/p>\n<p>This is the way the cowboys ride, giddyup, giddyup<\/p>\n<p>This is the way the cowboys ride early in the morning<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We did another tickle song called &#8220;Round and Round the Garden&#8221;:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Round and round the garden (circle baby&#8217;s belly)<\/p>\n<p>goes the teddy bear<\/p>\n<p>One step, two step<\/p>\n<p>A tickly under there! (tickle baby&#8217;s armpit)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Babies love the anticipation of where the tickling part comes in the rhyme. \u00a0We did another tickle about a bee:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Here is the beehive (show a fist)<\/p>\n<p>But where are the bees? \u00a0They&#8217;re hidden inside where nobody sees!<\/p>\n<p>But wait, and you&#8217;ll see them come out of their hive&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>One, two, three, four, five!
