Our preschool storytime on Saturday, May 2 was all about books. \u00a0First we sang the song “Clap Your Hands” and then read the book Lottie Paris and the Best Place<\/a> by Angela Johnson and illustrated by Scott M. Fischer. \u00a0It’s a story of two kids making friends through their love of books and libraries.<\/p>\n

For the next book, I told the story using puppets. \u00a0I Took My Frog to the Library<\/a> is a funny classic by Eric A. Kimmel and illustrated by Blanche Sims. \u00a0The girl in the story brings all kinds of outlandish animals to the library who mess it up in various ways, until finally the exasperated librarian begs her to leave her animals at home!<\/p>\n

We sang “Shake Your Sillies Out” and then did a fun felt board activity where the children helped me fix the animals’ talk bubbles so that they say the right words!<\/p>\n

We also had some help from animal friends as we read\u00a0Book! Book! Book!<\/a> by Deborah Bruss and illustrated by Tiphanie Beeke. \u00a0It’s a story about a bunch of barnyard animals who come to the library looking for something to do, but who can’t make their requests understood by the librarian who does not speak Horse, Cow, Goat or Pig. \u00a0This is a book I always like sharing again and again because I think kids can relate to the animals’ frustration!<\/p>\n

We watched a video telling of the story Petunia<\/a>, a book by Roger Duvoisin. \u00a0from the DVD Crazy Hair Day<\/a>, which you can check out from the Central Library. \u00a0It’s a story about a goose who assumes she knows everything just because she carries around a book. \u00a0But after advising her barnyard friends into one disaster after another, she realizes that it’s not enough just to carry a book–to be wise, you have to read<\/em> it!

We finished off with one of my favorite action\/movement songs, “If I Was a Bird.” \u00a0I hope\u00a0everybody had a good time and that you all got to pick up some free comic books from the children’s desk!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
