\"the<\/a>\"wow<\/a>\"windblown\"<\/a>A\u00a0 bit o\u2019 wind, a bit o\u2019 sun & a bit of a rainbow\u2026our family storytime centered on aspects of the weather.\u00a0 We read a classic by Pat Hutchins \u2013 The Wind Blew<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0 The wind is greedy as it carries a kite, a balloon, a shirt\u2026even a judge\u2019s wig into the air. Eventually the wind gets bored and shakes all of the items one last time before letting them fall to the ground. The children were mesmerized by the rhyming cadence of the story.<\/p>\n

Wow! Said the Owl<\/em><\/strong> by Tim Hopgood covers information about owls, weather, seasons and rainbows after the rain! This is a beautifully illustrated book that can be used to teach children about various concepts in nature. The rich colors even kept the attention of the wee babies.<\/p>\n

We also explored a flannel board version of the book Windblown<\/em><\/strong> by Edouard Manceau. The wind blew around some scraps of paper\u2026but who did they belong to? A clever tale that builds as 7 scraps of paper transform into 5 different animals\/insects, only to find that the wind has had the upper hand the entire time!

It\u2019s hard for me to resist a good rainbow activity when I\u2019m reading books about the weather. So we\u00a0made Rainbow Stew<\/strong>! This is a great flannel activity that involves a black cauldron, a stirring spoon or stick and some colorful fruit! At the end, VOILA! Take a red strawberry (or apple)<\/p>\n

Put it in the pot<\/p>\n
