We took things up, up and away with stories about balloons today!<\/p>\n

Books We Shared<\/h2>\n

To start off our balloon adventure we read a new title from Philip C. Stead – \u00a0Sebastian and the Balloon.<\/span>\u00a0Sebastian gets bored in his old neighborhood so he makes a balloon, brings everything he could need, and sets off to find an adventure and new friends.<\/p>\n

We followed that up later in the storytime with Perfectly Percy<\/span> by Paul Schmid. \u00a0The thing that makes Percy the happiest is balloons. \u00a0But Percy has a problem — his quills are always popping the balloons! \u00a0What’s a porcupine to do?\u00a0 With some thinking, Percy comes up with just the right answer.<\/p>\n

Flannelboard Stories<\/h2>\n

Today we shared Pete the Clown and his Five Bright Balloons, about a clown who isn’t at all frazzled when his balloons slip through his grip. \u00a0This beautiful flannelboard was created by Miss AnnMarie (You can see it in her Fair storytime back in November<\/a>.) \u00a0Her inspiration for the story came from a\u00a0story written by Katie Fitzgerald and posted on Story Time Secrets<\/a>.<\/p>\n

We used just the balloons then to do another flannelboard story, Five Balloons in the Sky. \u00a0I adapted this from a rhyme I found on Teacher Tom’s Blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Five balloons in the sky
\nWay up high
\nWatch them fly!<\/p>\n

If one should POP! (clap hands)
\nAnd quickly drop (remove balloon from board)
\nHow many balloons do you see?<\/p>\n

Continue until you have no balloons left.<\/em><\/p>\n

My Red Balloon<\/span>
\nI had a little red balloon (make ball with hands)<\/em>

\nand never let it drop (pretend to catch)<\/em>
