\nAt today’s storytime we started by creating a lovely garden out of shapes–hearts, diamonds, triangles, rectangles, ovals and circles came together to make flowers and a butterfly:\n<\/p>\n

\nWe also played with some beautiful Folkmanis bug puppets and sang a rhyme about butterflies, ladybugs and bees:\n<\/p>\n

Butterfly, butterfly,
\nFly up high,
\nFlash your colors
\nagainst the sky.
\n
Bzzz, bzzz,
\nFuzzy bee
\nbringing home nectar
\nto your hive in a tree.
\n
Ladybug, ladybug
\ncome to land
\non my quiet
\noutstretched hand.
\n
Ladybug, butterfly,
\nFuzzy bee,
\nTime to fly back home to me!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nWe learned a tickle song about a ladybug:\n<\/p>\n

Ladybug, Ladybug
\n(\u201cfly\u201d hand around and land on area)
\nLadybug, ladybug, fly out of the farm,
\nAnd land right on my baby’s arm.
\nLadybug, ladybug, fly out of the tree,
\nAnd land right on my baby’s knee.
\nLadybug, ladybug, fly out of your bed,
\nAnd land right on my baby’s head.
\nLadybug, ladybug, fly out of the rose,
\nAnd land right on my baby’s nose.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nWe read a beautiful board book called A Seed Needs Sun<\/a>, written by Kate Riggs and illustrated by Fiammetta Dogi. We spotted lots of animals that you might find in a garden, such as moles, blue jays, and earthworms.\n<\/p>\n

\"A<\/a><\/p>\n

\nWe learned a new movement song called Wiggleworm, to the tune of “I’m a Little Teapot”:\n<\/p>\n

Wiggleworm (to the tune of Teapot)
\nI\u2019m a little Wiggleworm
\nWatch me go! (wiggle)
\nI can wiggle fast, or very, very slow.
\nI wiggle, wiggle all around, (turn around) then I go
\nBack underground (touch the floor) to the home I know. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nWe played a counting game adding spots to a felt ladybug on the flannel board and learning our numbers (actually I forgot to use the numerals! Sorry)\n<\/p>\n

\nWe read another cute board book with flaps to lift, called Buzz, Buzz Baby <\/a>by Karen Katz:\n<\/p>\n

\nWe sang a traditional fingerplay song about peas in a pea pod:\n<\/p>\n

Five fat peas in a pea pod pressed
\n(children hold hand in a fist)
\nOne grew, two grew, so did all the rest.
\n(put thumb and fingers up one by one)
\nThey grew and grew
\n (raise hand in the air very slowly)
\nAnd did not stop,
\nUntil one day
\nThe pod went POP!
\n(clap hands together)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nWe sang songs using the Song Cube, and just before wrapping up, we learned about different kinds of bugs in the video “Bugs, Bugs, Bugs,” on the DVD “Spoon… and more stories about friendship<\/a>,” available to check out from Pasadena Public Library. The video was based on the book Bugs, Bugs, Bugs<\/a> by Bob Barner.\n<\/p>\n
