{"id":2124,"date":"2014-11-01T19:25:44","date_gmt":"2014-11-01T19:25:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/?p=2124"},"modified":"2014-11-15T19:28:35","modified_gmt":"2014-11-15T19:28:35","slug":"family-storytime-halloween","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/pasadena-library.net\/kids\/2014\/family-storytime-halloween\/","title":{"rendered":"Family Storytime: Halloween!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We started our Halloween-themed storytime by talking about what costumes we wore for Halloween, then we sang a song using the book <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.pasadenapubliclibrary.net\/ipac20\/ipac.jsp?session=1416V7830GC60.273939&amp;profile=pcent&amp;uri=link=3100007~!1116879~!3100001~!3100002&amp;aspect=browse_search_page&amp;menu=search&amp;ri=2&amp;source=~!horizon&amp;term=If+you%27re+a+monster+and+you+know+it+%2F&amp;index=PALLTI\" target=\"_blank\">If You&#8217;re a Monster and You Know It<\/a> by Rebecca and Ed Emberley. \u00a0I love the action and movement prompts in this colorful book.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.syndetics.com\/index.aspx?type=xw12&amp;isbn=0545218292\/LC.GIF&amp;client=pasap&amp;upc=&amp;oclc=\" alt=\"If You're a Monster and You Know It\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Then we read <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.pasadenapubliclibrary.net\/ipac20\/ipac.jsp?session=1416V7830GC60.273939&amp;profile=pcent&amp;uri=link=3100007~!1285837~!3100001~!3100002&amp;aspect=browse_search_page&amp;menu=search&amp;ri=4&amp;source=~!horizon&amp;term=Ghost+in+the+house+%2F&amp;index=PALLTI\" target=\"_blank\">Ghost in the House<\/a> by Ammi-Joan Paquette. \u00a0It&#8217;s got a nice rhyme and lots of repetition.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.syndetics.com\/index.aspx?type=xw12&amp;isbn=0763655295\/LC.GIF&amp;client=pasap&amp;upc=&amp;oclc=\" alt=\"Ghost in the House\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The kids helped me tell the story of <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.pasadenapubliclibrary.net\/ipac20\/ipac.jsp?session=1416V7830GC60.273939&amp;profile=pcent&amp;uri=link=3100007~!419982~!3100001~!3100002&amp;aspect=browse_search_page&amp;menu=search&amp;ri=6&amp;source=~!horizon&amp;term=Go+away%2C+big+green+monster%21+%2F&amp;index=PALLTI\" target=\"_blank\">Go Away, Big Green Monster<\/a> (by Ed Emberley) with my puppet friend Goon. \u00a0They delighted in pulling off bits of his face but they were nice enough to put his face back together when we were done!<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/3\/2232\/2191110808_8f2cac023f.jpg\" alt=\"Go Away Big Green Monster glove\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After that we read a funny parody of the classic <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.pasadenapubliclibrary.net\/ipac20\/ipac.jsp?session=1416V7830GC60.273939&amp;profile=pcent&amp;uri=link=3100007~!38849~!3100001~!3100002&amp;aspect=browse_search_page&amp;menu=search&amp;ri=8&amp;source=~!horizon&amp;term=Goodnight+moon+%2F&amp;index=PALLTI\" target=\"_blank\">Goodnight Moon<\/a> by Margaret Wise Brown called <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.pasadenapubliclibrary.net\/ipac20\/ipac.jsp?menu=search&amp;aspect=subtab129&amp;npp=25&amp;ipp=20&amp;spp=20&amp;profile=pcent&amp;ri=&amp;index=.GW&amp;term=goodnight%20goon\" target=\"_blank\">Goodnight Goon <\/a>by Michael Rex. I love his parodies. The illustrations are a bit creepy for very little ones, but the original is so familiar to little ones that I thought they would still be a good audience for it. If you liked it, definitely check out his parody of <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.pasadenapubliclibrary.net\/ipac20\/ipac.jsp?session=1416V7830GC60.273939&amp;profile=pcent&amp;uri=link=3100007~!426376~!3100001~!3100002&amp;aspect=browse_search_page&amp;menu=search&amp;ri=10&amp;source=~!horizon&amp;term=The+runaway+bunny+%2F&amp;index=PALLTI\" target=\"_blank\">The Runaway Bunny<\/a> called <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.pasadenapubliclibrary.net\/ipac20\/ipac.jsp?session=1416V7830GC60.273939&amp;profile=pcent&amp;uri=link=3100007~!1072083~!3100001~!3100002&amp;aspect=browse_search_page&amp;menu=search&amp;ri=12&amp;source=~!horizon&amp;term=The+runaway+mummy+%3A+a+petrifying+parody+%2F&amp;index=PALLTI\" target=\"_blank\">The Runaway Mummy<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.syndetics.com\/index.aspx?type=xw12&amp;isbn=0399245340\/LC.GIF&amp;client=pasap&amp;upc=&amp;oclc=\" alt=\"goodnight goon\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We did a felt board about\u00a0five little bats:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Five Little Bats<\/p>\n<p>Five little bats hanging upside down,<br \/>\nThe first little one didn&#8217;t make a sound.<br \/>\nThe second one said, &#8220;I&#8217;ll fly far tonight.&#8221;<br \/>\nThe third one said, &#8220;I don&#8217;t like sunlight.&#8221;<br \/>\nThe fourth one said, &#8220;I want to eat some bugs.&#8221;<br \/>\nThe fifth one said, &#8220;Let me give you a hug.&#8221;<br \/>\nFive little bats hanging upside down.<br \/>\nShhh! It&#8217;s daytime, don&#8217;t make a sound!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And we finished by dancing to the music video &#8220;Monster Mash&#8221; from the Disney Sing Along Songs <a href=\"http:\/\/catalog.pasadenapubliclibrary.net\/ipac20\/ipac.jsp?session=1416V7830GC60.273939&amp;profile=pcent&amp;uri=link=3100007~!882936~!3100001~!3100002&amp;aspect=browse_search_page&amp;menu=search&amp;ri=14&amp;source=~!horizon&amp;term=Happy+Haunting&amp;index=PALLTI\" target=\"_blank\">Happy Haunting<\/a> DVD. Usually film time is a time for sitting and watching, but this time everybody had to get up and dance!
