Spring has arrived! On March 15 and April 26 from 11am – 12pm, Jefferson Branch Library hosted Inclusive Sensory Art & Craft Making. A family-friendly event, the two Saturdays featured sensory activities for children of all abilities (ages 3-10). Paints, bubble wrap, and other art materials were provided for sensory exploration and along with this, stations with bins full of water beads and space sand were set-up for. Ingredients for spring slime were also available for sensory seekers looking for an extra hands-on activity!<\/p>\n

Youth Services Librarian Marie Plug says that our inclusive sensory art programs are based on the concept of Universal Design in libraries.\u00a0 Universal Design considers the different ways children and families learn and play together. Because the activities do not depend on a certain outcome, the focus can be on exploration, experiential learning, family engagement, and accessibility. This is what helps create a better, more welcoming experience for children with or without disabilities and their families.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you missed our spring programs in March and April, don\u2019t worry – more are coming!\u00a0 Jefferson Branch Library will host \u201cinclusive\u201d Sensory Art and Water Play on July 5 and August 2, a summer jamboree event held outdoors with wading pools, bubble makers, shaving cream, watercolors, space sand and more!\u00a0 Again, registration is required, and children of all abilities are welcome!<\/span><\/p>\n
