Our summer session of\u00a0Toddler Storytime is underway.\u00a0 Each week\u00a0you\u2019ll find\u00a0a blog post that\u00a0covers the books, rhymes, songs,\u00a0flannel stories, fingerplays,\u00a0puppets and video we shared.\u00a0 For our\u00a0seventh storytime of the session we read about shoes and feet!<\/p>\n

Below you\u2019ll find a record\u00a0of everything we shared!<\/p>\n

Books We Shared<\/h2>\n

In\u00a0My New Shoes<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em><\/a>written by Leilani Sparrow and illustrated by Dan Taylor, we see a baby bear who wakes up to find that his feet are growing!\u00a0 Time to buy some new shoes!!\u00a0 He and his dad head out on the train to the shoe store. On the way they see feet EVERYWHERE!\u00a0 Then the BIG decision \u2013 what type of shoes does baby bear need?\u00a0 Galoshes?\u00a0 Sandals?\u00a0 Sneakers? Shoes that\u00a0look like scary sharks???\u00a0 Baby bear decides that he just wants shoes that fit!\u00a0 This is the perfect story for infants about shoes.<\/p>\n

One Foot, Two Feet<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em><\/a>by Peter Maloney and Felicia Zekauskas promises to be \u201can exceptional counting book\u201d and it doesn\u2019t disappoint.\u00a0 I had to shorten it a bit to fit an infant\u2019s attention span but there is so much counting that there is more than enough content within the first half of the book.\u00a0 We start with one foot and turn the page to find two feet, we start with one mouse, then turn the page to find three mice, one goose turns into four and one snowman turns into five!!!\u00a0 We ended there because I told everyone the snowmen melted in the summer heat.\u00a0To make the book effective for babies, I created a rhythmic counting pattern with each new page which\u00a0kept the infants\u00a0engaged and reinforced the math concept.<\/p>\n

Four pairs of dirty socks, they belong to me<\/p>\n

Dad washed the yellow pair and then there were three!<\/p>\n

Three pairs of dirty socks, what’s a kid to do?<\/p>\n

Brother washed the red pair and then there were two!<\/p>\n

Two pairs of dirty socks, I wear them when I run,<\/p>\n

Sister washed the green pair and then there was one!<\/p>\n

One pair of dirty socks, one and only one,<\/p>\n

I guess I’ll wash the orange pair and then there will be none!<\/p>\n

No more pairs of dirty socks!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

We washed them all today, but wait until tomorrow<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

More are on the way!!!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
