Our summer session of\u00a0Toddler Storytime is underway.\u00a0 Each week\u00a0you\u2019ll find\u00a0a blog post that\u00a0covers the books, rhymes, songs,\u00a0flannel stories, fingerplays,\u00a0puppets and video we shared.\u00a0 There will also be\u00a0some\u00a0information\u00a0about the benefits of reading, singing and talking to your toddler.<\/p>\n

For our\u00a0third\u00a0storytime of the session we enjoyed reading and singing about\u00a0Cats!\u00a0 Below you\u2019ll find a record\u00a0of everything we shared!\u00a0 We started by noting that the word CAT begins with the letter C.\u00a0 Than we made the hard C sound together!<\/p>\n

I Love Cats<\/strong> by Barney Saltzberg is about all of the different cats out there to love!\u00a0 There are “stripey cats, spotted cats, cats that count drips; climbing cats, scaredy cats, cats that do flips . . .”\u00a0\u00a0 All kinds of wonderful cats appear on every page of this great\u00a0read-aloud.\u00a0 The illustrations are perfect for toddlers and the text is simple, yet varied.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Mama Cat Has Three Kittens<\/strong> by Denise Fleming is all about a Mama cat and her three kittens – Fluffy, Skinny, and Boris.\u00a0 Fluffy and Skinny tend to listen and follow\u00a0their\u00a0Mama but Boris\u00a0always naps!\u00a0 Well…he naps UNTIL\u00a0his siblings and his Mama are ready to nap; once they’re asleep he wakes up and\u00a0POUNCES!\u00a0\u00a0This is a classic story about one little kitten who purrs to the beat of his own drum.<\/p>\n

Where is Tippy Toes? <\/strong>Hide & Seek Game<\/p>\n

The children had to help me look for my kitty cat, Tippy Toes!<\/p>\n

I placed six different colored blankets and hid a black and white kitty named\u00a0Tippy Toes beneath one of them. I also hid a bird, a dog, a rabbit and a frog\u00a0beneath four\u00a0of the other blankets. Each round, I had one child pick a color blanket to look beneath and we\u2019d ask, as a group:<\/p>\n

\u201cWhere is Tippy Toes? I bet [child\u2019s name] knows!\u201d\u00a0 The children had fun uncovering Tippy Toes and ALL of the other animals!<\/p>\n

Five little kittens (hand in fist OR place flannel kittens on board one by one)<\/p>\n
