Our summer session of\u00a0Infant Storytime is underway.\u00a0 Each week\u00a0you’ll find\u00a0a blog post that\u00a0covers the books, rhymes, songs, tickle, bounces, flannel stories and finger puppets we shared.\u00a0 We also throw in some\u00a0information\u00a0about the benefits of reading, singing and talking to your baby!<\/p>\n

For our very first storytime of the session we enjoyed reading and singing about BEARS!\u00a0\u00a0Below you’ll find a record\u00a0of everything we shared!<\/p>\n

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See? <\/strong>by Bill Martin<\/p>\n

We\u00a0modified the\u00a0text from this classic\u00a0picture book by Bill Martin (illustrations by Eric Carle) and created a flannel board story.\u00a0 The book works\u00a0because it capitalizes on elements that appeal to babies and toddlers – rhyming cadence, bold and bright colors, large drawings that can easily be seen, repetition with an element of surprise, and animal identification.\u00a0 It is sometimes fun to take a story and use props to tell it in another way – children respond to the textures and\u00a0tactile nature\u00a0of flannel stories.<\/p>\n

Hello Bear<\/strong> by Priddy Books is a simple board book that works well as a lap sit or read aloud.\u00a0\u00a0As\u00a0you turn each page your baby greets a different animal with a “hello.”\u00a0 Recreating the sounds that each animal makes encourages your infant to start mimicking you.\u00a0 These utterances are the beginnings of your baby’s speech and language development.\u00a0 Also, getting baby to say “hello” begins reciprocal language and introduces the concept of communicating with actual words.\u00a0 This book is a great way to jump-start all of these processes in your baby’s brain.\u00a0 Plus infants\u00a0love the colorful pictures and can grab and hold the book without tearing any pages.\u00a0 Another aspect of literacy you might not think about – figuring out the mechanics of turning the pages!<\/p>\n

Flannel\u00a0Nursery Rhymes\u00a0& Songs We Shared<\/h1>\n
