For our\u00a0sixth \u00a0storytime of the winter session we read stories about cars and trucks!<\/p>\n

FUN FACT:\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Did you know that one of the five pre-literacy skills that help foster reading success in the elementary school years is book handling?\u00a0 <\/em>Book handling skills include knowing how to hold a book correctly and understanding that reading moves from left to right.\u00a0\u00a0By bringing your toddler to storytime and by reading with your child at home, you are teaching this important skill through example.\u00a0 Such a simple\u00a0yet effective way to support\u00a0school\u00a0success.<\/em><\/p>\n

What follows are the books, rhymes, songs, and\u00a0flannel boards we shared.<\/span><\/h1>\n

BOOKS WE SHARED<\/h1>\n

Toot Toot Beep Beep! <\/em><\/strong>by Emma Garcia is a great book about cars in traffic as they go \u201cup and down, in and out and round and round all day long\u201d.\u00a0 The cars in this book are diverse, bold and bright and each makes a unique noise \u2013 honk, beep, toot, vroom and beep to name a few!\u00a0 There is also\u00a0a surprise ending \u2013\u00a0the cars disappear for the night!\u00a0 But,\u00a0where do they go?\u00a0 You\u2019ll have to read the book to find out.<\/p>\n

Red Light, Green Light <\/em><\/strong>by Anastasia Suen shows a boy playing with his toy cars, trucks and trains.\u00a0 It feels like the real thing as we turn the pages and see\u00a0vehicles moving to and fro and in and out of tunnels; there are red lights flashing and rail cars and traffic signals everywhere!\u00a0 The little boy’s make believe world of toy cars and trucks truly comes alive in this book!\u00a0 At the\u00a0very end we see him with a stoplight and he reminds us that Red means STOP and Green means GO!\u00a0 A very good lesson to learn for a toddler!<\/p>\n

Go through all the colors\u00a0 and then end with:<\/em><\/p>\n
