WE read some great stories about shadows\u00a0during last Saturday’s\u00a0Preschool Storytime!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0And let’s face it – it was an entirely appropriate choice for Groundhog’s Day!\u00a0 Here are the books, songs, flannel board,\u00a0action rhymes and video we shared.<\/p>\n

Books We Read<\/h1>\n

\"\"\u00a0\"\"\u00a0\"\"<\/p>\n

In Groundhog’s Runaway Shadow<\/em> <\/strong>by David Biedrzycki we meet a groundhog who loves his shadow UNTIL his shadow gets on his nerves!\u00a0\u00a0Phil is orderly and on time, his shadow…not so much.\u00a0 Phil likes to eat clover while his shadow has more adventurous taste buds and likes spicy tacos.\u00a0\u00a0Eventually they grow so far apart that Phil gets annoyed and\u00a0tells his shadow to leave!\u00a0\u00a0His shadow had always wanted to travel (Phil did not) so he begins\u00a0exploring the world.\u00a0 Much\u00a0to Phil’s chagrin his shadow is making headlines everywhere and Phil begins to feel he is missing out (and he is beginning to miss his\u00a0shadow’s companionship).\u00a0 To reunite with his shadow, Phil has to go beyond his comfort zone and fly to parts unknown.\u00a0 This is a wonderful story about friendship, overcoming fears and learning to appreciate differences.\u00a0 It also makes a good read for Groundhog’s Day!<\/p>\n

The Black Rabbit <\/em><\/strong>by Phillippa Leathers\u00a0is a book about a rabbit who just can’t seem to lose his shadow!\u00a0 Well actually the rabbit thinks his shadow is a scary black rabbit who is out to get him!\u00a0 When that same\u00a0shadow manages to scare away a predator, rabbit sees the benefits of having\u00a0this scary fellow follow him.\u00a0 A great read aloud for preschoolers!<\/p>\n

Nick Sharratt’s picture book, The Foggy Foggy Forest<\/em> <\/strong>takes shadows and silhouettes to the next level.\u00a0 Children love guessing what each shadow\/silhouette represents and\u00a0a turn of the page reveals the surprise!\u00a0 This book is marvelously crafted with exquisite cutouts, gorgeous colors and mythical creatures and characters that delight and enchant.\u00a0 This one is sure to keep your preschooler engaged throughout.<\/p>\n
