I loved my first Infant storytime here at Central! \u00a0Here are the things we did today:<\/p>\n

We celebrated the letter B and talked about words that begin with B! \u00a0There are lots of creative ways to introduce alphabet letters to your baby, and it’s never too early to start. \u00a0Now, our goal is not to get babies “reading” per se, but just exposing them to the letters and words that make up stories and occasionally drawing their attention to those letters so they start to build recognition. \u00a0So every Tuesday at storytime, we’ll talk about a new letter and by the end your baby will know one third of the alphabet!<\/p>\n

\"B<\/a><\/p>\n

We read Baby Parade<\/a> by Rebecca O’Connell and illustrated by Susie Poole. \u00a0And we waved at all the babies! \u00a0We also talked about the babies, like what colors they are wearing. \u00a0If you ever need an easy way to bring talk and conversation into the books you share with your baby, talking about the pictures with words describing colors, shapes and sizes is a great way to build your baby’s vocabulary!<\/p>\n

We also read Look at the Baby<\/a> by Kelly Johnson. \u00a0Babies love books with photos of other babies. \u00a0This book talked all about our body parts! \u00a0You can talk about what the babies are doing in the picture, and point to baby’s body parts as you read about them.<\/p>\n

We learned the song “Hush, Little Baby” with a feltboard display:<\/p>\n

\nPapa’s gonna buy you a mockingbird<\/p>\n

And if that mockingbird won’t sing,
\nPapa’s gonna buy you a diamond ring<\/p>\n

And if that diamond ring turns brass,
\nPapa’s gonna buy you a looking glass<\/p>\n

And if that looking glass gets broke,
\nPapa’s gonna buy you a billy goat<\/p>\n

And if that billy goat won’t pull,
\nPapa’s gonna buy you a cart and bull<\/p>\n

And if that cart and bull turn over,
\nPapa’s gonna buy you a dog named Rover<\/p>\n

And if that dog named Rover won’t bark
\nPapa’s gonna buy you a horse and cart<\/p>\n

And if that horse and cart fall down,
\nYou’ll still be the sweetest little baby in town.<\/p>\n

And we sang I’m a Little Teapot, Two Little Blackbirds, and Twinkle, Twinkle. \u00a0We also bounced, tickled and had lots of fun with the songs Icky Bicky Soda Cracker, This Little Piggy, Here is the Beehive, and Ladies Ride!<\/p>\n

If you’ve never heard Here is the Beehive before, here are the words:<\/p>\n

Here is the beehive, but where are the bees?<\/p>\n

They’re hiding inside where nobody sees!<\/p>\n

But wait! \u00a0Watch them come out of their hive…<\/p>\n

One, two, three, four, five!<\/p>\n
