Today’s storytime mascot was a lamb, because we were going to be “counting sheep,” and getting ready for bedtime!

Books We Shared

Tuck-in Time by Carole Gerber and illustrated by Tracey Campbell Pearson is a fun bedtime book with lots of action prompts and prompts to touch your eyes, nose, ears, and tummy. And it’s got lots of kisses and tickles!

Originally published in France, Shhh! This Book is Sleeping by Cédric Ramadier and Vincent Bourgeau is an unusual concept. The book is sleepy, and it needs your help to go to sleep!

Flannel Boards We Shared

Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed

Five little monkeys jumping on the bed
One fell off and bumped his head
The mama called the doctor and the doctor said
“No more monkeys jumping on the bed!”

(Take a monkey away and repeat the rhyme with one fewer monkey, until there are no more monkeys)

Ten in the Bed

There were ten in the bed and the little one said
“Roll over, roll over!”
So they all rolled over and one fell out!

There were nine in the bed…

(Keep removing children until there’s only one left)

There was one in the bed and the little one said:
“Good night!”

We sang this along with a CD, but in future, I’m going to do this a capella. The CD is too difficult to follow, sometimes fast, sometimes slows down, sometimes pauses. (sorry guys!)

Action Songs & Bounces We Shared

Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear

Teddy bear, teddy bear turn around
Teddy bear, teddy bear touch the ground
Teddy bear, teddy bear show your shoe
Teddy bear, teddy bear I love you.

Teddy bear, teddy bear climb up the stairs
Teddy bear, teddy bear say your prayers
Teddy bear, teddy bear turn off the light
Teddy bear, teddy bear say goodnight.

Open Shut Them

Open shut them, open shut them.
Give a little clap, clap, clap.
Open shut them, open shut them.
Place them on your lap, lap, lap.
Creep them, crawl them
Creep them, crawl them
Right up to your chin, chin, chin
Open up your little mouth… Buuuuuuuuuuut…
Do not let them in!

One Bright Scarf

One bright scarf waiting for the wind to blow
Toss it up high and wave it down low
Wiggle it fast and wiggle it slow
Hey! (cover face) Where did you go?

Peekaboo

Peekaboo, where are you
hiding in your… PLACE! PEEKABOO!
Peekaboo, I see you
and your smiling… FACE! PEEKABOO!

Goodbye friends, goodbye friends
Goodbye friends, it’s time to say goodbye.

Music from CDs We Shared

Children love to sing and dance to music.  Here are some of the songs/bounces on CD that we used in storytime.

“Clap Everybody and Say Hello” from Sally Go Round the Sun by Kathy Reid-Naiman

“Popcorn” from Shining Like a Star by Laura Doherty

Video We Shared

We watched Llama Llama Red Pajama, based on the book by Anna Dewdney. It’s a new TV series. I showed just the 2nd half of the episode from when Llama Llama is getting ready for bed.
