Watch out – SHARK!!!!!  A few Saturdays ago we read books about sharks.  We were very careful not to annoy any of them in case they decided we looked edible!  Here are the books, songs, flannel boards, action rhymes and video we shared.

Books We Read

I’m a Shark by Bob Shea introduces us to a very confident Shark!  He isn’t afraid of anything, not the dark, not even big, mean bears!  Well maybe there is just one thing this tough shark fears – spiders!  A really funny picture book that turns a stereotype on its head!

In The Three Little Fish and the Big Bad Shark, Ken Geist and Julia Gorton take a traditional fairytale (The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf) and give it a  twist!  The three little fish are all grown up and their mother sends them out to “sea” to make their way.  Unfortunately, there is also a big, bad shark out there who tries to thwart their plans!  You can probably figure out the rest.  Let’s put it this way – he ends up a vegetarian at the end of the story.  A great read aloud and a fractured fairytale that you can compare to the original.

Flannel Board

Five Little Fish

Five little fish
Swimming in the sea
Teasing Mr. Shark
“You can’t catch me!
No, you can’t catch me!”
Along comes Mr Shark
As quiet as can be
And SNAP!

Four little fish
Swimming in the sea
Teasing Mr. Shark
“You can’t catch me!
No, you can’t catch me!”
Along comes Mr Shark
As quiet as can be
And SNAP!

Three little fish
Swimming in the sea
Teasing Mr. Shark
“You can’t catch me!
No, you can’t catch me!”
Along comes Mr Shark
As quiet as can be
And SNAP!

Two little fish
Swimming in the sea
Teasing Mr. Shark
“You can’t catch me!
No, you can’t catch me!”
Along comes Mr Shark
As quiet as can be
And SNAP!

One little fish
Swimming in the sea
Teasing Mr. Shark
“You can’t catch me!
No, you can’t catch me!”
Along comes Mr Shark
As quiet as can be
And SNAP!
